3f Running shit!!

I have an fj73 with a 3f engine in it. I had a new dizzy installed by a mate and it was good but it was pinging a little so i took it to a mechanic and he replaced the ignition coil, spark plugs and re timed the dizzy. I got the keys pulled out of the drive way and OMG it was running sooo shit. I would put my foot down and it would jerk then get a little power then jerk some more then when i took my foot off huge backfires started to happen. What do u think is wrong?
Cheers

Timing is out or the points are set wrong or could even have the firing order wrong bit hard to diagnose over the net ..

But if you say you took it to a mechanic and he did the work and replaced stuff and re timed it and gave it back to you like that id be intoducing him to the hickory ...

If you have payed to have it sorted you have been ripped off and it sounds like you have as the coil and leads was just a scam to get coin out of you as it was running ok just pinging ....

You need a REAL mechanic one who wont rip you off ...

Go electronic ignition while your at it, piss the points off...much better result.

Well it still runs like shit but its a bit better now. They said that it needs a new dizzy because the shaft and bushings are so loose that it misfires all the time.

I hope a new dizzy will fix it, its running rough after 2500 rpm and the tacho jumps around alot and there is alot of back firing.

worn bushes in a distributor or bearings for that matter depending on the arrangement create distributor shaft runout , especially at high rpm , since the shaft actuates the points that creates the spark note the points open about the distance of a sheet of a4 paper is thick (bugger all) any runout will create some rather average running issues. make sence... could be alot of things there are many different types of missfire

its the points bud my 3f runs like a shit bag if the points are not set exactly right....pig rooting, pinging at low revs the dwell angle is out it needs to be 14 degrees thats where mine runs best

dont just go in and buy one but , pop your dizy cap off and try and wiggle the shaft side to side if you get movement out of it its fucked , you can replace the bearings in some dizzys but the cheap price of replacements now days its hardly worth the stuffing round , unless you like doing shit like that like me :P

All sounds a bit sus to me even more so if ya still using the so called mechanic who gave it back to you running like shit ...

In your first post you say after the new dizzy was fitted by a mate it ran good just pinged ...

Now after so called mechanic has played with it replaced stuff that was working (coil and leads) and now wants to fit a new dizzy more coin out of your pocket into his ....

Why not fix the original dizzy that come out and get a second opinion from another mechanic , dizzys are easly recoed and mechanics are a dime a dozen tho good ones hard to come by ...

something i neglected to ask , if it was only pinging why didnt you just retard the timing a micky hair.. or did you try this first.

Probably very long shot, but were new leads put back into the right order?
