Hello,
Few boys are helping me over the Auto leco section, But I just wanted to ask the fellas who don't have time to read the auto leco section.
Upgrades on a 4.2 desiel trol alternator?
Where, Who, how and why?
Hope for some replies =)
Thanks.

I am going to do the other approach to fix this damm alternator problem
i am going to rip my timing covers off my TD42 and put the ones form the later model on with the vac pump on the timing gears
then any alternator will do

A replacement is available from AEA (google should find them). Think they come in up to 120amp. And have the VAC pump on the back.

How complicated is this swap? Because if it's fairly straightforward then it's a good way to go for the long term.

I've got an AEA 120 amp alternator. Expensive but a whole lot better than the wimpish standard thing....

i have fitted a 2nd alt under the injector pump , cheap and easy , 60 extra amps doesnt hurt , but im going to see if i can fit a bigger falcon or holden alt under there for even more amps , or atleast something that can output more power at low rpm

well to do it, its not the easiest thing in the world, but there are harder things to do
I will do it when i do the Injector pump.
From what i know i will have to remove the PSteer and alt, water pump, drain coolant as you would expect
take off the front timing cover, take off the injector pump at same time.
then remove the timing gears, idler gear and oil pimp gear
then you remove the back plate that everything bolts onto, you then replace the back plate with the new one off a GU or a 95+ GQ TD42 which has the hole below the injector pump, this bolts on a vacuum pump that runs off the IP pumps timing gears. You will also need a new front cover off the same motor as they are slightly different in shape cause of the vacuum pump, then replace everything as it was, done like a dogs dinner.
i will do it so i can run standard alts or run 2 vacuum pumps. either that or get an electric vacuum pump. that might work
