My HID lights (2 buld for high/low) only HIDs on highbeam and the highbeam halogen bulb is on without the hid bulb in regular lights on position. the HID is working fine on highbeam but it is standard beam whilst on highbeam and no beam while driving lights are on.

does that make sense?

Your info is a little hard for me to follow.

Switch set to low beam: What's on, what's off?

Driving light switch on: What's on, what's off?

Possibly completely irrelevant, but I think some 'Cruisers use one of the headlight filaments to earth a headlight relay coil. I expect the HID wouldn't let this work.

Its in my GQ, the lights were fitted to my commonwhore and didnt HID at all as they have a seperate light for high beam so i dont know what the go was there.

I don't understand your configuration. You have a GQ - these come from the factory with single 7" halogen headlights?

You have HID hi/lo and halogen high beams? Got a pic of your vehicle?

the hid setup on the globe is

low/halogen high. so if i just turn the lights on noting happens except the halogen bulb comes on (not much light at all). if i then flick high beams on, the hid comes on.

This is so confusable, i know what your saying but its like licking a blender while its on

I think the kits are generally the other way around so you don't piss off oncoming traffic on low beam.

This would make low beam halogen & high beam HID

So you have replaced the H4? bulb in the round 7" headlights with a halogen & a HID bulb? Or similar?

There would be no driving light switch as these are his headlights...
And it sounds like it is working as it was designed?

yes, H4 globe in a 7" round patrol headlight. i guess ill just get a good set of spotties for highbeam (i figure i never use high onroad anyway)

hi had the similar problem with my HID when i got them..
i had to switch some of the wires around on the HID 3 pin plug to sought it out.
with cheap HID's the companies prewire them to suit either negative or positive switching (i think it is positive) and when plugged in to the other it makes them do werid things.
if your any where near the gold coast this weekend i can help sought it out for you
they aren't designed to switch on with hi beam.
HID's dont like to be flicked on and off.. in lay man terms its not good for them.

I'll try to help you but I think I am as confused as everyone else on here at the moment. Here goes, generally if you have a dual beam hid/halogen kit , it would be set up for halogen only to come on for low beam, hid only to come on for high beam (so the globes swith over, otherwise there is a risk of the heat from the halogen globe cracking the hid globe casing). Driving lights are a totally seperate issue and would not be affected by the hid headlight kit. If you want to swap to Hid low and halogen high you can usually just swap over the wiring in the headlight 3 pin connector plug.
Just to clarify though a decent hid kit doesn't care how many times you switch it on and off (this would have to be the biggest falicy going about hid's. I hear it all the time and it's just not true. To give you some indication I have just yesterday come back from the Hella plant, their earthmoving HID's (for the mines) are set up in the lab to be switched on and off at 5 to 10 sec intervals. The company we buy off do a similar thing as part of their quality control testing. (it's a hot start test))
