Fried Alternator and 240Volt inverter use

Has anyone had an alternator burn out - stator- when using a 12v to 240V inverter in their vehicle?
I have an 800w unit used to drive angle grinders and drills, and shortly after its use my HD alternator died. Trying to get to the bottom of the failure. I have since had the stator rewound, just don't want to be doing damage to the new one. The inverter did cop a work out and was used fairly heavily across two days, probably 50% duty cycle, and did trip out a number of times due to current overload.
Cannot find any other fault with the charge circuit either.
