i would not go any where near amms. they had my gq for a pump rebluild and dyno tune and returned the car to me with the vac line for the boost gauge not conected there for it was running !18 psi (not what it was tuned for). i wont get into what they did to the pump. secondly they gave my keys to some one else and then they stood there and argued with me that the keys they were trying to give me where the right ones. it was not until they went an check there survalance tape that they agreed. i also know of to other people that were not happy with them at all. one of them had a turbo fitted to his navara and it was returned to him with coolant lines touching on the fan. i think this is piss poor. i found the performance centre to be very good. ph. 32051911.

I've takin mine to chapmans in Cooroy (Sunshine Coast), twice now. Once N/A and then again after fitting turbo and cooler. They have done a great job both times. A bit of a drive, but I thought it was worth it. Doubled my RWHP after DIY turbo install and there tune on dyno. :D

I used to live in Noosa and my mates have been using them for years. I have always heard good things within mates and they know their shit when it comes to diesel tuning.
It cost me about 300. That included a mod plate for my diy kit. It was on the dyno for about 3 hours and he kept me informed. 1st attemp was about 135 rwhp. He warned that it may blow smoke if we went any further although may get a little more hp. So as you can imagine I said to go for it. Back to the shed he went and I ended up with 146rwp and a bit over 800nm of torque. (14psi)
Standard engine, Garret GT28 bb turbo, PWR water to air cooler, maxed out standard pump, 33's, standard gearing. Drives sweet and very little smoke. I happy as a pig in shit.
Injector pump now leaking like crazy so I got them to sus out reco GU exchange pump which I will be back up there soon to have sorted.

cool cool black smoke who cares :D more power..... haha

yeh me bros car im putting together has a denco kit i put on injectors and pump flow more. we give it a very rough tune 11psi and lots of black smoke lol needs to get to a dyno asap when i get the motor back in. 146rwhp would be good this thing is only a weekend warrior really dont know how much power we could get not having a intercooler. wat do ur egt's get upto? when do u start full boosting

i might give these guys a go i like to be informed and be there while tuning is happening.

cheers

The dude tuning didnt let me in the shed but I kept sneaking up as you do to keep an eye on things. When cruising on the highway it sits on about 220 -350 depending on load and that sort of thing. Norm about 250. Doing about 110-120kmph. (Pyro in dump pipe). doesnt usualy get any hotter than about 400 deg when floggin it or towing camper.
Full boost by about 2200rpm.
Just watch the black smoke thing, as you know more fuel more heat in diesel. Keep an eye on the pyro.
I cant wait to get new pump. More fuel = more boost = more hp

chapmans are the go. they have always done my old wagon and i have always been happy.they do heaps of patrols. as a reference they do a lot of the comp trucks including the lcmp ute, the whole family races and are really good people.

Well at least they were good enough to check the tapes.

My brothers girlfriends sisters ex boyfriends step brothers dog washer had a run in with a mechanical workshop somewhere so does that mean i know people who give crap service as well :?:

Strange after all the research i completed before I had some work done on my Patrol at AMMS I found bugger all bad things said about AMMS.

I'm not sure what to think here. A few weeks ago you were an expert ont he cost of tuning.
money_killer wrote:getting ripped off and for starters who puts on boost controller s ? 99% of guys dont because u dont adjust ur boost onces its tuned.....
now you need to ask what a tune is worth??

why don't you just send him to Northside 4x4 in caboolture?

Leon is a great tuner there and tunes start from $165
That way it's local and easier.

Only thing is you'll usually have to wait about a week to get in.

If you ask nice though, they'll even tune it on a Saturday morning.

5495 5519. 73 Learjet Dr Caboolture (near the airport)

They will ask you to set up a boost controller though, as without one, you can only run the standard boost. Ask them and they'll explain it I'm sure.

yeh hard choice i just have a thing with "main stream shops" pretty sure i will give this other mob a go. is adjusting the wastegate not good enough for adjusting boost ?

cheers aaron

Northside 4x4 is hardly 'mainstream'.

Yeah it's an ARB distributor but not many ARB shops have a 4WD dyno, make their own range of intercooler kits, both water to air and air to air, do custom suspension, rebuild engines daily, is working on their own range of chips, has it's own line of mandrel bent exhausts or get involved in all kinds of custom build ups.

How do you plan to adjust the waste gate by the way? Just going to turn a screw or something?
The way a boost controller works is by bleeding 'x' ammount of air off before it gets to the wastegate actuator. As such 'tricking' the actuator into opening later at a higher pressure. The only other way to do it is to change the actual actuator to a higher pressure item. That'll cost a darn sight more than a little $100 boost tee.

It doesn't matter to me where you get your truck tuned. I was mostly curious about why you definitely didn't want to use your local ARB or TJM dealers (not that TJM Caboolture does any tuning other than plugging DP chips in).

If you want, just go down and check out the shop. The guys will be more than happy to show you round and discuss your truck and other vehicles like it. I reckon Leon could do a TD42 tune in his sleep. He's been doing at least 3 or 4 a week for over ten years. Experience and proven results have to count for something. But if you look around enough, you'll find other shops with similar exp levels.

by adjusting the rod adjusts the boost then locking it sets it to the set boost eg 10psi.

cheers for that info they are worth a call will do that for sure. closer is more easier...

thanks aaron

adjusting the wastegate is not the best way to adjust boost. it can cause some major issues.

boost controllers are not dodge at all. boost bleeders are not the best option for high end, high boost street cars but for the other 99 percent a simple boost bleed valve (cheap boost controller) it will not faulter. if your concerned at this then the best way as used in 1000+hp skylines etc. is an electronic boost controller... very pimp and they even have a cool display.
