Outer Limits 4x4 Board

hey guys, a friend is looking at buying a new hilux, and is just wondering if they would be any good for a work ute as he is a buidler and has there been any problems with them that have been reported?? he owns an old naturaly aspirated diesel lux so he isnt overly worried about a huge power difference, any feedback would be great. cheers mosko

They are fine as long as you upgrade the rear springs if your gonna be hauling alot of load often and the factory clutches are crap, will wear out in no time....... go the auto.

replace the tyres with some all terrains and the factory tread wont grip even on wet grass!

bloke i work for has 1 and it is fine works well hasn't been tested for massive loads yet

I have also heard that the factory clutchs burn out very quickly

mmaaxx is pretty much spot on, standard leaves, clutches and tyres are crap. My boss has an 07 model with 50k on the clock, so far he has had replaced under warranty: 3x clutches, a complete gearbox, rear main oil seal, resealed the transfercase, airconditioning compressor and a few other niggling items. His mate also has one and the waterpump is leaking and his clutch is rooted, but he has been to slack to take it back for warranty. I have driven several others at work that have farked clutches and noisy aircon compressors. Other problems Toyota said they have encountered are stuffed rear diffs, wheel bearings, and injectors.

I don't what the hell is going on with Toyota but they are really starting to turn to shit, my bosses brother has 200 series Sahara (v8 diesel)with 17k on the clock which has a major oil consumption problem, its only done 7k since its last oil change and the oil level isn't even registering on the dipstick

one of our D4D lux's at work went back to fleet with 60,000kms on the clock on its 3rd clutch- But thats more operator error- we have a nitwit of a driver who rides with his foot on the clutch all the time

Another one of our lux's has blown its rear diff at 54,000kms.

i drive my work hilux pretty hard sometimes, near 100,000 now and still on the the original clutch. I think alot of it has to do with user error

edit: we had one blow the rear diff, It was reported and booked in for the next week and it blew up a few days later. they made a bigger sale replacing a whole diff then just a seal.

That seems the norm for the diesel 200 series. The missus's boss has one with the same problem and have heard of a few others up here that use oil as well

I love driving our new 'Lux at work.
I wouldn't spend my own money to buy one though. It just doesn't seem robust enough.

That's my 2c.
I have no hard and fast facts to back it up.

Geez for $110k or whatever they cost you'd want to hope Toyota do something about it! I have to admit though, with a 3.5" Beaudesert Exhaust fitted it pulls like a train, I'd love to fit some Steinbauer's to it!!

ive got a 2wd hilux for my work car

its done 50thousand. no problems.

regularly has a full load on (always has at least about 500kg on it, but regularly loaded to 1t ish)
