G16a g16B swap

HI
Without ever seeing a G16B in a vitara and having no idea the setup I ask this?
How difficult would it be to swap a G16A out of a 94 Vit JLX to a G16B.

I don't want to swap to an EFI setup just replace the 8 valve with the 16 valve. For more grunt.

What is the horse power diffrence between the G16A and G16B?

or would the effort (and $$) be better spent on a Cam, Extractors/Exhaust, +2inch suspension.

Daily driver and mild trails.

thanks

From memory, the power difference is something like 10 or 11Kw between carb and EFI. There is a web page somewhere with the specs, but having just moved, can't get to my links on my puter.

I'd go the G16B if it comes with the complete loom, computer and everything, then fit extractors and an exhaust. First thing I'd do though is suspension and tyres ...that'll make a shite load more difference to it both on and off road than anything else...AND it'll make ya rig look the part. PM me if ya want some contacts for doin it for a decent price.

By the way, the fact that a donk is a G16A or B does NOT relate to it having EFI or Carby.....I now run a G16A (as indicated by the engine number, as well as the big stamp on the block), and it is very definitely a 16 valve EFI. Apparently the G16A was still being produced as late as 1994. :? :? :?

Really, the only reason you'd go to the trouble of swappin' ya motor would be for the EFI......there's a million reasons why it's better. AND it'd be simpler to do a complete transplant than swappin' bits off one motor onto another.....believe me, been there, done that.

If ya just want a bit more grunt, then extractors and exwhores should bring ya up to about where a stock EFI donk would get ya...cheaper and a WHOOOOOOOOLE lot easier.

By the way, what part of Melbourne u in?

Agreed. The main point in the swap would be the EFI, so if you're not doing that why bother?

I have seen 16 Valve's in sierras with Weber carbies and the like but if you wanna do that you may as well just shove one on your 8 Valve and get some head/port work done.

It would probably work out cheaper and quicker than a 16V with carby anyway.

I found this as well my front cut engine is a G16A and is a 16 valve MPI engine.

I wanted to swap the sump and pickup from my G13BA to the G16A but the pickup doesn't bolt up the same :?

you need to cut the sleeve (the sleeve that goes into the block) off the vitara pickup, this then goes over the sierra pickup and brings it to the right size (use a good silicon to ensure it is sealed between the 2).

then you need to cut the support and make it refit to the vit support hole.
then slightly mod the splashback in the sierra sump to clear the bearing rails..

Roughly the 8v carby has 55kW and 112 Nm and the 16v efi has 72 kW and 132 Nm. The heads are different so both the intake and exhaust manifolds need changing and the intake will need to be custom. I'd suggest that you either swap it all including the efi and computer or just warm your 8v a bit.

i know this thread is ancient but. u think a weber and extractors on the carby one would make them about the same power?
