All the options you listed can and have been done. But the vit/baleno type conversion is so easy, and so useful. Unless you really want to get stuck in and do something different, or have the skills or $$$ to go a 4A-GZE or somthing, just stick with a Vit/baleno type conversion.

you missed jimny G13BB. Which is probably the easiest. Just a hard engine to come by.

My vote, vitara.

Like a lot of things, cost will end having some sort of influence.

How much were you expecting to pay for the gti engine?

the GTI is a 1.3 L right
i herd you get around 150hp out of them with an exhaust and extractors with out a turbo.
i would think you would need more power than that

you heard wrong.
you wouldnt need more power than that.
They are a very revvy motor, with most of their power up high in the rev range.

Acutal power figures are useless. For 4wding its all in the power and torque delivery. A lower powered motor with a much more even and balanced torque and power curve is a better motor than a revvy peaky motor.

cost isnt really something im worring to much about, would love to do it for nothing but, when does anything cost nothing when dealing with cars.

i can get a GTI engine pretty cheap, and wouldnt be to much mucking around really, well i dont seem to think so yet anyway

i didnt forget about the jimny it just didnt fit into the options.

providing the said motor doesnt weigh 3 times the peaky one?

i still intrinsically feel that a g13a crank in a gti motor would balance the playing field between it and a jimny motor

Well, If you can get a gti engine very cheaply, but will have to pay full retail wrecker price for a 4age, vitari 1.6 or whatever, then that probably answers your question

A gti will still perform better than the standard half worn out carb 1.3. assuming that is what you have in there now.

as said, a jimny g13bb is the way to go or a m13/ 15a as long as you get the ign lock with it.. both are way better than a gti or vit engine imo..

cheers mark.

offtopic -
can you explain a bit more about this ign lock. Just put a M13A + auto in a mates zook, still more to do however needs both keys on to start.

Ontopic -
G13BB negates problems associated with both GTI and Baleno/vit motors.

Bolts to Gbox, engine mounts (although BenT supplies bits to fix this), no dizzy problems and no engineering problems.

I personally wanted more get up and go (plus i get bored and love building and I'm pushing 33's) so i boosted mine. I feel this has equal if not slightly more power, especially down low, to a gti motored sierra on 32's, with 1L case.

I dont get why people ask whats the best motor for me because IMO there's to many things to consider to choose one motor that will be best for everyone because everyone wants something different out of there 4x4. What some people say is shit might be perfect for you and vice versa.

Just get what you think will be adequate for your needs/comes in your price range and if you dont think a gti is you should look at some aftermarket parts or get something with more power only you can decide.
