100 vs 200

Well im about to purchase a cruiser this week and after recently selling my 80s Sahara petrol/gas (sad to see it go after nearly 12yrs) have decided to update,
i took a 2007 200 GXL 4.5 for a spin very impressive power wise, and ive also tested a 2006 tdi Sahara 100 both veihcles were in great condition,
but im now leaning towards the Sahara, theres no doubt the 200 has great power, but for what the Sahara offers in extras makes for a hard decision, and i know its hard to compare a GXL to a Sahara but the 200 in a Sahara is more than a little out of reach,
has any one updated similar, or are there any views as i would be interested before parting with the hard earned cash

It you ever want to modify it. I.e susp, batteries. It will be cheaper in the 200 GXL.

X2.......the 200 uses coil over struts............not cheap. i believe the 100 drives a bucket load better too.

Well intersting coment Joeblow (the last bitt), as i too was a bitt taken back how nice and smooth the 100 Sahara drove, my son who was with me both test drives also agreed, maybee i was expecting more out of the 200, but as mentioned ealier the 200 is a GXL, so its maybee not a fair comparison, but i have driven an 04 100 GXL and that was one of the reasons for the update

no noticable difference in the 200 sahara compared to a gxl 200. i get to drive both types enough to know i would prefer the 100. yes the v8 diesel is nice, but so is the multivalve turbo six. just comes down to what you like really. when i'm in a 100 i feel like i'm in a 100, very nice layout. when i'm in a 200 it feels and looks like a big hyundai (cheapish) on the inside.

and is it just me....or has anyone else noticed how the 200 likes to torque steer?

Well after much thought and consideration, we opted for the 100 Sahara, it just seemed to offer that bitt more, in fairness to the 200 it was a little cheaper by 15k, the price on the 100 was 55k and the 200 70k, probably the only thing i could really fault on the 100 was the power, right off the bottom was a turbo like lagg, where as the 200 seemed to have better woh to go and its power seemed more carish as the veihcle never appeared heavy when taking off from a standing start,
but that was really all we could find, the 100 to us fealt smoother and quieter handled better and really fealt like a better all round veihcle,
allthough it may date with an earlier shape than the 200 in time to come, i still struggle even after a couple of years with the release of the 200 i still cant quite get used to the shape or the lines on the new cruisers

i did a fair bitt of searching before purchase, and for an 06 Sahara tdi that had every available factory option when new (DVD bar/covers etc etc) and when new optioned up cost the previous owner a little over 100k just over 3yrs ago seemed like a good buy,
most of the others i found were over the 60k

Where do people come up with this stuff?

Good choice with the Sahara, love the turbo six in them, beautiful motor. It will make a very nice touring wagon with a few select mods. It will also hold its resale value better than a petrol version.

15k will buy a hell of a lot of extras - starting with a nice bottle of wine so you can sit down and have a proper think about which a chip and better exhaust you can install so its motor performs as close to that v8 as possible!!

then another fine bottle so you can think about the other 10 or so k youve got left to spend

@shadow - thats why i bought the sahara 60 series 3 years ago - i just knew it would be worth 20k more on resale **cough**
