hey i was wondering what i can do to upgrade my hj47 lights as they are like you are working down the street holding candles

Easiest thing is a wiring upgrade.Heavier wiring and a couple of relays makes a huge difference.

yeah upgrade wiring is a good idea, but upgrading to a halogen insert type light assembly is worth it just as much.
especially if you are still running old style sealed beams.
