Using longer shocks in Hilux, any benefits?

G'day all, have just put new 3" springs in the lux with extended shackles, was wondering if i can use longer shocks than designed, to make them work without compressing shock i have to either extend bumpstop or lift shock mount at front 35mm and rear is 80mm, but extension is an extra 160mm rear and 70mm front. Will i even get that kind of droop out of the springs (efs) when they settle? At the moment the rear is no where near the bumpstop 160mm fully compressed which leaves 80mm of shock left to compress, raising the front shock mount can be done easily, cheers for any advice, Mick. Also specs are - front 390mm comp/640mm open rear 490mm comp/820mm open if that helps.

shite that was hard to read!

after 4 attempts see if this helps.

if your not compressing all the way to your bump stops then your springs are probably too stiff. (or something else is limiting it). sounds like your back end is way too stiff.

your bumpstops at this stage are largely irrelevant, as you cant flex to them.

take out the shocks and flex it up, measure your maximum and minimum distances between shock mounts, thats how far it will flex at the moment. as long as your shocks are slightly longer than your amount of droop and shorter than your compressed measurment then the shocks will be fine

you mentioned getting more droop when your springs settle? you will get a lower ride height if they settle, but your droop is unlikely to change.

you will however get slightly more up travel over time as old springs do flex a little better.

sounds to me like you need to play a little more to get the springs flexy, then worry about bumpstop adjustment if they compress too far for your shocks.

Thanks, yeah sorry bout post, i realised today even if the springs did droop any further i could end up inverting the shackles, just asking cause i was given wrong shocks which were longer and thought to myself "extra downtravel", but i will swap them over on tuesday, thanks again.
