My mate has one safari snorkle feeding his 355 holden engine, you can hear it dragging the air in big time. We will build a big tube snorkel soon.
Your are probally best off fitting one see if it slows things down, if all is the same leave it at that. If you loose power fit a second.

if you want safari, you would be better off with twins.

If you're going to do that you could have twin stacks also
I know you said you don't want a tube one, but in my opinion twin snorkels are for kenworths, and look silly on 4wds, so i'd go 4" tube.
I'd say a safari would flow similar to a 2.5 - 3" tube, depending on the tune of the motor it may be ok, maybe buy a 2nd hand one, fit it, if it doesn't flow enough look at other options - I don't think safari make a snorkel for the other side of the gq - so it probably wouldn't be a spot on fit even if you did find something similar...

Can you shed some light on what snorkel you can fit on the drivers side of a GQ ?
I dont like the look of twin snorkels but I think it looks 500% better than a tube one.

I was looking at fitting one from a Toyota 60 series to mine as it runs better with the single air tech one removed! (disconnected), I am running a 6.5 turbo diesel and with the snorkel fitted up you can hear it suck like all hell,

theres plenty of comp trucks with twins, tried searching as its been discussed before.. And agree they look 12,000% better than tube.

just had a look on the safari web site and they only list one for the lhs, might try and give them a call tommorow and see what they would charge to do a one off right hand side one?

Just for reference, in case it helps... the thing to watch is the
cross-sectional area of the snorkel/pipe. And in general you can get much more out of one big pipe than two small ones.
eg.
Code: Select all
Diameter Area
2" 3.1 sq in
2.5" 4.9 sq in
3" 7.1 sq in
3.5" 9.6 sq in
4" 12.6 sq in
You can see that one 4" snorkel is considerably better at flowing air than two 2" ones. Even two 2.5" snorkels are only about equivalent to one 3.5" one.
This is one reason why you are often going to see pipe snorkels instead of plastic moulded ones when the air intake is getting demanding. But, a bit of intake restriction is not the end of the world anyway.

Yep, the larger snorkle will only JUST be enough air. As ugly as it may seem the mandrel bent round ones are by far the best. But thats not really your problem. The air filter is what restricts it bigtime. You have to get 1 made (ive seen a f250, air filter that gives enough air) Also there are a few new age barrel air filters that allow enough aswell.
No actual air filter, just running the standard pod and a snorkle. I gained 20 bhp instantly by removing the air at the throttle body and after dyno tuning it without the airpod I made an extra 34bhp.
