Outer Limits 4x4 Board

hey guys got 32x10.5x 15 simex centipedes on 15x8 rims now my problem is i keep getting mud, clay, dirt in the bead and alows air to leak out so always stopping and breaking the bead and cleaning it out!!!

thought about getting tubes but i figure its still just going to get mud in there and then more and more.

whats the best way to stop this? weld on beadlocks or the internal beadlocks??

hey dude i am one of these unlucky blokes that constantly gets mud in his bead, i have become an expert at breaking beads,cleaning and resetting them lately just for a try i have siliconed the space between the rim and the tyre to prevent sh it getting in there and its worked a treat. some might call it dodgy but it costs $4 and i havent had any problems in 2 hard trips.

what pressure u run tyres at?? today i tried them at 30psi and it did it so put them to 40psi :( been looking at

do you silicon it when the bead is broken then pump it up or just run it around the bead when the tyre is inflated??

you should be able to run those tyres at around 10-15psi offroad.
it will make a huge improvement to traction and allow the tyre to deflect over rocks and ruts etc and give the edge of your rim a bit of protection.
I used to get shit in the beads with my tyres at road pressure, I havent had it happen for a long time with lower pressures.

I have heard of people using black sikaflex to help seal beads. Let your tyres right down, break the bead all the way around, smear black sikalfex around the rim where the tyre bead will sit, reinflate your tyres to seat the bead.
Sikaflex sticks like shit to a blanket, so I would imagine changing tyres in the future would be a pain for who ever has to do it.

run 7 inch rims and you shouldn't have a problem. the 8's are too wide. there are lots of people out there that have your problem. The centipedes seem to have a little "rim protector" rubber rand that does a good job of collecting mud and shoving it into the bead area.

internal bead lock wont stop mud getting in.
im running 37/10.5/16 tyres on 7 inch rims & stauns & i still get mud & crap in the tyre occasionally, it happens with lowish psi & keen driving, and ive had this with all wheel & tyre combos ive had.
and instead of breaking bead to silicone/sika, try just running a bead of sika around the seated tyre at the bead. this works well with stauns because its easier when breaking bead at a later date, its easily replaced when scuffed out and seems to make a good difference.

Running 7 inch wide rim won't fix the problem one of my mates in running the same size on tyre with 7 inch rims and has the same problem. The problem is the tyre with and its stupid rim protector, it leaves a huge gap between the bead and rim for crap to work it way in start a leak. I won't buy set of simex untill they get rid of the rim protector.

I'v had a set of simex 34/11.5/15, on 15x8 rims for three years of hard off road flogging on also alot of on road I run high 35psi (max) and low 10psi - and I have NEVER had a bead leak or fill up with crap - thats a pretty bold statement??? have you acctually owned simex's, anyway prehaps I'm just lucky, I will buy a set of simex's again even if they dont get rid of the rim protector

thought if i let them down to much i have more of a chance of this happening, as in the tyre it self has the chance to slop around on the rim more. like say its dropping into a hole or rut the tyre could slop to the side

i have tried it at 10psi 20psi and 30psi it still gets in.
i put the silicone on at full pressure a mate told me to check that it is a neutral silicone so it wont eat the tyre or degrade its integrity

I used to always get mud in the beads offroad at 12psi in my zook and 2 or 3 days later my tyres would be flat.. I got tired of popping beads and cleaning mud out so I fitted a set of Staun internal beadlocks...
THEY ARE AWESOME.. No more mud in beads... No more flat tyres.
I now run 2-4psi without a worry.

A few mates who have simex have found out the hard way that they don't hold the bead very well (in general). Not bagging the tyre, just that their bead diameter tolerance seems pretty average.

Whereas I run my 285/75-16 (33x11) MTRs on 7" rims at 7psi offroad in all conditions and have never lost a bead.

i had the same tyre and rim combo on my hilux. used to run maximum of 15psi and never had a problem with mud in the beads or ever debeading a tyre.

i now have weld on beadlocks and i have taken the inner bead off once. So i siliconed it up hopeing it will help. Havnt tried it out yet tho.

Internal beadlocks still let mud in, ive had a mates patrol sitting at my house over the last few weeks with internal beadlocks and 37s.

A few tyres have got mud in the bead, and punctured internal locks...i think they are crap, i dont know many people that like them either

No, the one trip I did with mate running simex centerpeds was painfull enough, two leaking beads and one tyre came off, all the orther cars running radials had no issues. I don't like fixing leaking muddy tyre beads I'd rather be 4x4ing

I have to agree regarding the stauns, ive had my share of hassles with them too. not just bead problems, but also inflation/deflation and leaking.

the best pressure to run for offroad use will vary depending on tyres, car etc. My tyres are run at 38psi on road and about 16 off. the tyre deforms as you drive through ruts over rocks etc, this means you have maximum amount of rubber in contact with the ground so you have far more traction. IMO with lower pressures the tyre shields the rim a little bit too.

dont go the stauns , i bought a complete set of pedes rims and stauns and in 5 trips i had at least 5 stauns equalise (get a hole in them) i also ripped one tyre off the rim due to beadlock not working and had numerous dramas airing up and down with them

in the end i was too scared to run them at anything below 18Psi whisch is what i used to run my non bead locked tyres at.
