looks like a smallish turbo that they run on the CA18DET silvias etc. Prob good for about ~250hp.

Can you PM me the numbers off the little silver tag in the bearing housing?
I will be able to identify it for you then

pretty sure its a r32/r33 skyline turbo
also i got nfi about diesel turbos but some of these have a ceramic turbine wheel dunno if thats a good thing or bad thing for a diesel
good for about 15psi before the wheel explodes

It is a Garrett T25. But as to which one, you will need to post a pic of the numbers on the exhaust side and the little silver plate.
T25s were fitted to lots of different vehicles, and in variants which may or may not be suitable for your engine.

I zoomed up the numbers I think it's this one.
http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobyga ... 1171_9.htm
Same A/R 80 etc
here's the sizes

As for the question of it being good or not you'd need to work out the numbers and place them on the compressor map and then you'll know.

Hp is irrelevant when a 1h is over double the capacity, which needs more than double the air flow, it will be a massive restriction and run out of efficiency fairly early.

a 4l engine redlineing at 3.5k needs roughly the same air as a 3l engine redlineing at 5k

going from the dump pipe and the comp housing is setup. (position of bolt holes)
it looks to be from a CA18DET

It is NOT a (stock) CA18DET turbo. They have an A/R of 0.48.

Correct Ben.
I run a CA18DET turbo on my 3.9L Isuzu. This is the smaller T25 with the 0.49 turbine and 0.48 compressor.
The one in this thread could be a T25G (0.64 A/R exhaust, 0.8 A/R compressor) or a T28, the tags on the centre section will give a part number.
It is not a GT2554R.
Rating turbos in hp is a rule of thumb used by petrol engines. They equate 1lb/min of airflow to 10hp.
The CA18DET T25 turbo can run 25 lb/min easily, hence some say it's a 250hp turbo.
The 60mm T28 compressor can run 33 lb/min, hence some say it's a 330hp turbo.
Needless to say, there is far more to sizing a turbo than comparing peak hp numbers.

Pretty sure it isn't a T28 - the turbine housing looks the same size as my T28, but the compressor housing is smaller.
Well said!!!

anyone watch scrapheap last night?
they built sand drag cars. one had a missmatched turbo on it and only managed 28MPH, they cut the turbo off for the second run and NA they hit over 80MPH, so yeah you want to get the right one

Yes I did watch it. The whole show was a great idea of what not to do.
I am sure they could have gotten a stocker from the scrapheap going and won the challenge.

yeah but where is the fun in a stocker

I often think that though, im guessing the rules stop them running complete vehicles.

Indeed, but in other episodes they have found SBC engines, etc... So I expected one of the teams to find something like that - or a rangie V8 etc... The coupled 4cyls would have been a good idea if they had pulled it off.

its not an rb2x series turbo as the compressor inlet on these turboes is a hose clamp, slip on style.
t28 of some description/model by the look of it.
but either way, probly a bit small on a 1hz.

T28's are a good match for a 1HZ.
