Given that these awesome looking things are without a doubt outside my price range, what do you guys reckon is the best bang-for-bucks (or lux-for-bucks) option in HID spotlights right now? ie best performance for a few hundred dollars a pair?

dunno about best performance but i have a set of rallly 2000 both spot beam that i have fitted hid globes to and they work well. I use both spot beams due to the fact that since the new globe isnt quite in the same spot as the old normal one it seems to give a decent spread aswell as depth of light.

Nothing against steve, but at those prices, who are they marketing them towards? Toorak people who never use them but *MUST* have them to show the boi's at the golf club??

Can imagine the reply from insurance company when you said
"2x hella spotlights, $2600"

I'm sure that they're worth every cent, being the best of the best, but the only people i can see buying them is motorsport (rally, OBC etc), and possibly the bling mob.

Call insurance company

a)"Hi. I would like to get some insurance for some lights."
b)"Yes, thats fine. Do they have any aftermarket accessories?"
a)"Umm, yes. They have a Nissan Patrol fitted to them."
b)"Oh....(keyboard tapping away in background)"
a)"If thats going to affect the insurance premium, i can take the Patrol off the lights."

Nothing says "Steal me" like writing HID on the rim of the light.

$2600 makes for a very attractive target.

it has me stumped , what is the light made from that costs so much , is the light filament made from unobtainium or something :? even at less than 1/4 of the purchase price ( $300 ) , what would cost that much in one light ?????

or is it just a bling / supply and demand thing ???

I think it would be the R&D side of things.

Give it a few years and there will be something new on the market that costs 1k+ and HIDs will be cheaper.

Mate my driving lights are $30 specials from Supercrap as I don't do much night country driving. No way I'd shell out that much coin for a pair of lights.

after having a demo on these i would have to say they a brillant light for a 35ws they a very good. i have use a lot of different hid lights in the past few year ranging from 35w to 100w and these thing leave them for dead. the light that they display is on it own the spread beam that i had was that bright with 1 i would hate to see 2 or even more together and as they do say you pay for what you get

150$ for a 50w HID kit
200$ for a pair of used quality spotlights.
CIBIE, PIAA or HELLA

30 mins to fit the HID's ( in some lights there is enough room behind the reflector to install a slimline ballast)

I just fitted the 35w HID's to my hayabusa, and dont know how the hell i lived without them for the past 10 years!!!!!

Ebay 50w kits are $100 delivered, fit them to brand new Nightstalker 170's at $100 and you have the best bang for buck around, even if the others are better at 12 times the price i doubt there 12 times as good.

does anyone have a link to which kit to use? do these improve over the standard hallogens very well with just the ebay kits?

Sorry all but i think you have miss the point of the post. I was just letting you all know about a new product out .
The KC pod light are a great looking light as well but they cost $2200 US a set .
I sell after market HID kits for headlights, driving lights, hand helds, etc, etc, etc. Hid's and driving lights are all I do and as far as value for money goes you can't beat an after market kit fitted tou your current spotties. But if you want a top quality light you will not beat the Originals. It's not just about the hid, but the new pradators run a much higher quality lense and reflector especially designed for hid's (as with the kc) so you get a far superior light output. Hella spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on r & d and testing machines. You should see the set up in the factory. I could probably even organise a tour if anyone is interested and you could see for yourselves how much actually goes into the r & d light development.
Zook_Fan just give me a call or pm me if you after info or follow the link to our ebay site.
Cheers
