Outer Limits 4x4 Board

After going away over easter.. i came to the quick conclusion that 1) my shocks are naffed, 2) my torsion bars are on their way out too, and 3) i need some wider tyres.

I was thinking RS9000x for the back because of the towing around of trailers i do with rovers.

I was looking at some new torsion bars on rancho.com.au the other day, and they were $535 a pair new. This got me thinking about SAS. Since i already had plans of upgrading to 32" or 33" tyres next year would i be unwise to spend the money on an SAS if 33" would be the biggest tyres id imagine running while i own the car?

Is it possible to run SAS without high or x-over steer, and with alift of 1.5 - 2"?

I have done the standard search, read about dreamas issues, and the sites posted by ausyota in the FAQ's.

I have a few mates that i could get to help me out, and im prepared to do it myself with them.

I done mine (97 hilux) and havent looked back now i have heaps of front end travel a better ride but steering is not as direct
I used double flip arm, drag link and pitman arm adaptor from chaos
it took me and a mate 2 1\2 days from go to whoa
The only way u could not run high or x over steering is to use an earlyer model hilux steering box

is the 86 IFS in mine atm old enough?

You need a front to back swing box i think yours would be a side 2 side
swing, but if u go back to a front 2 back swing u need to run a turque rod to avoid your diff twisting when u go 4 the brake and pulling to the side under braking, also u have to costom mount the new steering box.
But running a turque rod will also restrict flex

all ifs boxes are the same, it would be more trouble then it is worth not to go cross over.

go xover steer and make sure you get a return to centre stabalizer ,2 if you can afford it way better for steering.

Do you recon if i put a return to centre stabaliser on my hilux that would tighten up my steering as it feels very light and and in direst

stabilizer makes heaps of difference...

i know it's expensive but save your dollars and do the conversion, but do the histeer, it's a must! It will make your car safer, travel further and be more comfortable to drive. i've just don it and it's awesome!

Not as easy as i thought hey! And i was just informed that i have to buy a new calculator for Uni that is $250.. so no SAS any time soon :(

I am doing a SAS next week on the Surf (well Overkill is). I am going for cross over steer but without the hi-steer as the budget wont allow it. What differance will the hi-steer make to the car being "safer and more comfortable" ??

Also does anyknow if I can use my IFS brakes (discs and rotors) with a hub spacer kit from M&M on a early (84) lux diff to widen the track? I want to use the IFS brakes as the lux brakes are a solid disc and the front end I have is from a 2001 model so they are in good condition.

with the steering make sure you get a return to centre stabalizer

with the brakes and rotors ect pretty sure its interchangable and for spacer kit you can get away with out useing it by mounting the calaper on the inside of the bracket thats 1.5" bit of try and era for strength but sure it would work

Thanks 4sum for the pic. I am going to use M&M's spacer kit as I hope not to be machining and welding brakes and bolts. I could just imagine some insurance inspector going hhhhmmmmmm..........
I'm going to use my existing return to centre stabiliser of the IFS, just have to mod 1 end bracket as it is pin to eye not pin to pin. They appear to be the same length.
Tommorow is the day, the Surf will never be the same. It better be better Sam....
