Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all,
Ive got a 00 model landcruiser 79 series, And was just wondering what would be my best option for tyres, Keeping in mind that i dont want to spend a shitload, nor do i want cheap shit
Im thinking 70% road 30% sand and mud, as it is my regular drive vehicle, but i also like to do some 4x4ing and camping every now and then. I was thinking 33"? will they scrub?
Any help would be appreciated as im completely lost on what tyres to get haha.

I had 33x12.5x15's on my old 75, never scrubed, and at the time they suited my needs perfectly.

have a read through the many tyre topic threads that are going at the moment in general 4x4 tech. Heaps of great info about a whole range of tyres

Yeah thats my problem, Theres too many tyres to choose from!! lol, Thats why i was wondering what people reccommend,

well you read the tyre topics and read peoples recommendations. That is the whole point of those threads to get good usable info in threads about each tyre so it makes it easier for people to find this info. Rather than starting numerous other threads asking the same question over and over agin.

As Grimbo said, have a read through them, they will tell you what is good what isn't. Eleventybillion threads asking the same thing is why search doesnt work anymore.

there is also the factor of budget, mods to truck, usage, and 1200000 other variables. It isnt as easy as "what should I get"...

And the tyre threads are based on "owned and run" opinions, not "my mates cousins brother had some". All of the posts are from people who have purchased and ran the tyres in question.

i just went thoguh this for my 75 sereis, so i ordered some 33" maxxis bighorns (which took out second in aust 4wd monthlys tyre comparo) ordered 5 on rims from fourbys in qld, had them shopped to melb for 1600

Who cares if there is 12 Thousand thread's on tyres, the search is F***ED here, so the only option you have is to ask, or waste a week wading through unrelated posts, and that's IF the search will even run.

Awsome choice there Wambat, when i ran them on mine, i did'nt have to change gear 3 times before i got across a set of light's

You dont need to search for them. All of the "proper" tyre threads are in the first 3-4 pages of general 4x4 tech, and the actual threads are only a few weeks old IIRC.

um because those threads ie Tyre Topics have been made to be useful. Full of first hand experience by people about specific tyres so others can get all the relevant info rather than starting another thread.


Personally I'm running 33x12.50 nankang Mudstars which so far have been excellent. Good on road, good off road and best of all only cost $170 per tyre brand new via ebay

Are Maxxis Bighorns very loud when you reach like 110+?

Dan there no worse than any other M\T out there, but as they where they do get louder, but in my 75, tyre noise was the lest of worrys

Second the Nankang. I just did a trip with a group of trucks all lifted and running muddies. We had BFG, Hankook, Kelly, MTZ's and my Nankangs and they suprised everyone, in most cases they did better than the big names. They bag well and grip even better. Ive had them for 1.5 years on a daily driver and they have heaps of tread left. $170 for a 33", they arent that noisy and there decent on road. The only problem I have with them is under brakes in the wet they lock up easily. Also if you go offoad you will have to let the tyre pressure down. They chip quite badly at road pressures (most muddies do) now that ive lowered the pressure (18psi) ive had no dramas with chipping. Also in muddy ruts they wont climb out as they have roundish shoulders and no side lugs. I'll be buying them again though, very happy.
