Outer Limits 4x4 Board

My son bought a reco motor for his feroza. It had a rough idle and lots of water coming out of the exhaust manifold. Lots of oil in the sump and in the rocker cover. I pulled the head off and found that the gasket was ok!

The head bolts were not to tight so could that be the problem

There are several test you can run to check for a haed gasket issue.
You can do a pressure test to see if you loose water. (Into the sump).
Or check if the oil has water in it. You can buy a T_K tester which measures the amount of combustion fumes in the coolant (Bit expensive).
If you already pulled the head off. You should send the head away to get crack tested and or machined. Than buy a new VRS kit. (Head gasket, inlet manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gasket etc.) And slap it back together. Make sure you torque the head down correctly ( I know its obvious). Checking that the timing is OK is also very important.
To bad the motor is out of warranty. The reco motors are usually rubbish. They only replace the components that have failed. The ones that have obvious signs of wear get left and hoped for the best that they will last the warranty period.
Its best to buy low KM import motors. Longer warranty.

Thanks box! The gasket was like brand new (which it is). The head is not warped as I checked it.
The head bolts did not seem to be the right tension and were not tightened down to the right torque. Do you think that might have caused the water getting into the engine?

Did the head bolts look like they were replaced? If the old ones were used they might have stretched and actually come loose. If the Head was not bolted doen right it would definitlly run rough and cause coolant / oil issues.

It looks like just the gasket Box. On one side it looked brand new but carefully looking at it there was rust indicating a leak in the gasket. My son only did 20,000ks on this reco engine and the fault was that the bolts were not tighten to correct torque!!
