Matt black is cool. I love the look on Rat rods
But... a 'dinged up' matt black 4by may attract some extra unwanted attention from the cops IMO.

Hit it with undercoat yellow, will be less cop bait that way.

if done properly y would it be cop bait as the car will legal and doesn't have any rust

Tip for matt black as well:
Touch up the paint with satin black, not matt black as it blends in better.

is that so people won't be blinded from the bonnet allways being up?
sorry.....could not resist.

Because of the coppers natural attraction to matt black vehicles.
Cheers

if changing the colour of your car consider that you may need to change your rego papers.
Also spray cans won't be that durable and will scratch easily...will also take a few cans to do the whole car. If you have an air compressor get a paint gun, would be quicker, but not necessarily cheaper.

Another problem with matt colours ive heard, is that any parts you rub become semi-gloss and look crap compared to the rest of the car. Also any parts you touch frequently like around door handles, boot lids, bonnet edges, etc...

g'day ,
i had a matt black car once , the cops pulled me up all the time . 3 full car strip searchs all on the side of the road in peak hour (and never hung round to put it all back together ) and countless pulling me offer just for the sake of it out of all that they never fined or charge me for anything ,
i soon got rid of that car ,
the next 4by i got never had any probs after that.
not syaing it had to do with the colour but if it wasnt that i dont know what it was ,

Then instead of tooting the horn you can just put your hand out the window and scrape your fingernails on your car door, to really annoy the other driver.
ps the pics in your link are fugging awesome.

Used to ride a Matt black motor cycle around melbourne. Police did not seem to mind. Only time i got pulled over was for riding like a nutter. The odd time I got puller over for "what the f*#k is it" other than that ok.

I've always wondered how a matte or stain black would come out with a clearcoat over the top. Would that make turn a bit glossy.

This is what happens when you get a nice good condition patrol and leave it with someone who has a $10 dollar budget to paint his car.

Looks crap unless done properly

Hammertone paint for that industrial look. Easy to touch up with a brush too.

I've painted a car flat black before, and my car is olive drab.
I love flat paint. It looks terrible, which is the point IMHO, and it easy to work with. It fades out in the sun in no time, shows touch ups really badly.... it's really just something to stop the panels going rusty.
however, I reckon only certain cars look "right" in flat paint - sierras, defenders, gwagens, H1 hummers, 40 and 70 series, and early Rangies - basically, anything that has a simple line and mostly flat panels.
I reckon when a flogged old car is quickly flat blacked it just looks redneck IMHO.
I'm even thinking of painting my next suzuki a gloss colour (!) although when my Gwagen gets paint it will be flat for sure. (probably NATO green)

nato green sounds good with a big red star on the door
i was thinking mat black but any mat finish color would be good its just the most common to buy in a can is black

It's much more cost effective to get someone like pro-tec paints mix you whatever you want, however, most paint places HATE mixing flat paint as they are convinced you don't really want flat, and that you'll complain when it oxidises and goes all chalky.
It's about twice the price to buy flat black from bunnings, and about 3495748745x more expensive to buy rattle cans.
Bear in mind, you're going to need to etch prime wherever you are down to bare aluminium. Etch primer is expensive and very nasty to work with. If you don't the paint will fall off.

Or use some chalk and tell them what's on your mind in writing

Exactly.
Btw. Protec make the official AUSCAM (army camo) paint, so they should have experience with matt paint.
Aucam colours include matt black.
Another option would be one of the Colorbon colours
- they are satin/matt. I was tempted to respray my x-army landie in pale eucalypt, but I have now changed my mind and will be using the proper AUSCAM scheme.
AUSCAM Paint codes and colour schemes are here:

That matt black clubman style car gives me evil thoughts. Stuff the polished aluminum panels some of them have, that thing looks horn. Would look right at home as batmans Sunday thrasher.
I also agree with the comment about the mat black rat rods. Pure toughness.

I'm a FAN of the Matt Black jobbys ....I only just repainted the VIT last night in another coat after the rebuild .....Was as below at the start of Tuff Truck .....didnt quite end up the same
...........
Best of all as of the night before TT doesnt matter if its raining ect ....a decent job is still achievable ( not as if your after a shine
)and best of all you dont need to be an expert to lay it on ...which for me is GOOD
I will grab the brand of the shite I have used and Post up ...its also available in a spray can ....I just bought two litre tins and mixed with mineral turps ...about 15% ..... just purchased from supercheap
