i bought a new winch off ebay i got it for $399 hmmm i thought for that price why not and i thought it would do until i the coin for something better,a couple of months back i was reading the 4wd monthly topic on winches it seemed simple enough to service a winch so out of interest i pulled my winch apart last night it has not been fitted to vehicle yet and what i found was disturbing!...........one of the springs that hold the brushes in was lying on the bottom of the housing hmm ok so i fixed that up and went to the other end and found that most of the gears had surface rust the grease was not that of grease more like yellowish clay.....my point is how many people has purchase these winches and have not had a look inside before use..now ive studied this winch and my mates T Max 9000 and its identical to this chinese thing????????? makes you think.ive since got jap bearings and regreased it i think now it should go alright

i have one of the repco 12000lb winches on m cruiser (im guessing its chinese) the first thing i did was pull it apart and re grease it.

its now been on there at least 3 years and i have given it a fair flogging and its been good. no complaints.. if it does shit itself now, i have definatly got my moneys worth!
