mk wiring gremlins

Post by hiluxmad »

got a wiring problem with a swb mk
the indicator lights on dash light up when i turn the headlights on...
also the tacho stops working as does the volt meter.
looking at the wiring behind the dash vs the diagram in the book there is no earth in the loom(actual) as stated in the book.
i figure it has to be an earth problem.
also it will only do this while the vehicle is in forward motion.
wont do it in reverse.
i think that the cluster is earthing through the speedo cable and as it moves you loose the earth.
am i even on the right track?

ps it was originally an L28 motor is now 350 chev
Keep it shiny side up!
Now doing general fab work and painting
trays, trailers, engine swaps on request, some tube work, silo section sliders, rust repairs, ute chops etc

Mad

It must be 12v if it was an L28....
Have a look just above the fuse panel on the RHS. There should be a about 6mm black earth wire going to the body. I thinks its ment to be under a dash mounting bolt on the verticle plane. I have swapped at least 12 MK MQ looms before.

Good luck
