3B trouble

hello every 1
My mate has a '85 hilux with a dyna 3B diesel in it, the other nite whilst driving it it died, he was able to get it going again but once it was going again it was blowing what looked like engine smoke out the breather pipe of the engine

At first we thought it may have cracked a piston or ring, blown a head gasket or cracked the head, so we pulled the head off the engine and found nothing
All the bores are clean as, no craked pistons, the head is not visibly craked and the head gasket looks fine

We are now stumped as to what it could be
Any help or advice on this would be a great help thanks

did you do a compression test before you pulled the head?

if there is lots of blowby and it happened suddenly, you might have broken piston rings. look for vertical scuffing in the bores.

if the bores and pistons measure okay you can re-ring by pulling the sump and popping the pistons up through the block. might as well change the big end bearings while you're in there.

good luck.

if your talking about the crankcase ventaltion pipe that comes out the exh side of the block then this normal. it is the just the crankcase gase escaping mine does it when its warm and you can often smell the fumes sitting at lights. if oyu like oyu can plumb it back into your air intake. im going to do this one day

No we didn't do a compression test as we don't have the tools. All the boars are perfectly clean and scratch free. We are about to pull the motor out so we can get the sump off and look for any broken rings or anything else that could be causing trouble.
