What are hilux diffs made out of?

Ok so im building a track bar for a mates zook/lux, Im sure that they are steel but my old man thinks they are cast. I know how to weld cast so don't worry bout that, but i would like to convice the ol man:D

Everyone just tell em what you think we'll do this on a vote

nah they aint cast. but even if they where, they would still be steel :P

Lol yeh which part are you talking about! Just weld it like you would if it was cast, either way you cant stuff it up. Oh and there was a simple noise test to see what it was, i cant remember it though, do a google search.

if you hit it, and it sounds like a cat, then you are probably trying to weld a cat.

i find rods with a feline filler are best for this kinda work

Now now! Nah honestly one knocks and one rings or maybe thats cast steel and cast iron. bah dont listen to me :roll:

The housing is pressed metal welded together. You can very clearly see the welds along the back of the housing where the housing grows toward the centre.

The 3rd member, or diff centre, is cast steel.

The axle housing is steel ( pressed sections and welded together ) the 3rd member ( diff centre ) is cast iron.

Track rod usually goes to the axle housing doesnt it.

Anyway, I voted steel and then the forum said that my vote was cast..... so please take one off cast and add it to steel. :lol:
