Have a couple old CB's. Wondering if it is worth me and a mate fitting them what sort of range can you expect running one of the cheap black 3ft arials to another 3ft arial?
Cheers

Probably not too bad these days, as all the idiots now have UHFs. Only really good for short range stuff, longer range stuff can be hit and miss depending on atmospherics.

on a clear day using sideband (if yours has it ) can get a lot further than a uhf would but like was stated it depends on the atmosphere .

i'm about to reinstall one of my am's as the uhf is always being used by someone . and the am's are cheap to buy and if you have sideband you will more than likely have a p.a as well wich is good for yelling at the twit in front of you guiding you into a rock :D

Back when i was 18 i had a AM USB/LSB cb mounted on my motorbike and on a clear but partly cloudy night i spoke to a guy at a Hawaiian Airforce base from Mt Dandenong.

Depends largely on the terrain your in.......

flat open country = UHF will be far better

mountainous country (eg: Otways ) = CB will dominate
