Jaycar HID kits???

Post by dano80 »

Hey All,

Just searching through the latest Jaycar catalogue and found HID kits for converting spotlights, etc.

They seem like good value, $99 for a single bulb, ballast, wiring, etc.

Anyone used these yet?

Cheers, Dano.

Given the sheer volume of HID ballasts comming out of China, I wouldn't be at all surprised if "Made in Germany" was actually "Made in China". Perhaps there's a town "Germany" somwhere in China.

Legend has it that theres' a town in Korea ( or somewhere ) that was renamed "USA" - so things could be branded "Made in USA" - good story anyway.

Apparently the wholesale price for a ballast is around $8 Au.

An example of incorrect labeling is the BOSCH HID conversions, sounds good but BOSCH don't actually make an aftermarket headlight conversion..... Copyright / Design registration / Patents etc just don't seem to matter.
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.

I bought a set of those "bosch" branded one years back when i was testing HID's looking for the best to use and sell in my business, yer there crap, as crap as they get(re-badged "super-vision" brand, nasty nasty stuff)

And the whole made in Germany thing, thats bull as well, i can put that on anything i want and sell it, China owns when it comes to lies

The real question you need to ask is, do these lights have warranty? and is there an Australian agent for them, if no agent steer well clear

You will find it says "German Technology", not made in germany.

I have usually been happy with the quality of Jaycar stuff. And they are usually fine with warranty replacement.

umm - the Jaycar kit is $2 cheaper per pair.

And if you get 5 (2.5 pairs) or more the price drops to $177.90 a pair. Or $156.90 a pair if you buy 5 or more pairs.

a group buy on these from Jay car could be a thought if people were interested. id say that is going to be your cheapest option if the more you buy the cheaper they make them.

SL-3365 HID Conversion Kit 35W H3
SL-3367 HID Conversion Kit 35W H1
SL-3368 HID Conversion Kit 35W H4
The same part from Electus per single unit
$63.36ea for 1+
$59.40ea for 3+
$53.46ea for 5+

Plus GST and delivery

So the most you'll pay is $150.95 per pair delivered to your door.
Less $11.50 if you pick the gear up from Rydalmere in Sydney.

$139.34 a set delivered if you get two pairs.

$123.39 a set delivered with three pairs.

Won't get much cheaper with more pairs.

Are the jaycar units 55w, i would doubt it

Also if thats them in the above images, beware of incorrect color rendering of that brand of globe, i have done heaps of testing on them and found some weird colors(from the brand in the above pics aka super-vision)

So the power consumption of the ones you bring in is 55W? What is the light output and colour temperature?

As for color i can get you almost any render you want, but 4300k and 6000k are the best sellers, without going out to the shed(way to cold) i believe the 4300k are 4100 lumen and the 6000k are 3900 lumen(but i could be total wrong here)

as compared to a 35w 4300k typical lumen of about 3200 and the 6000k at about 3000 lumen

This is just off the top of my head but, so dont shoot me
