little help needed cos this has happened twice, for those of you with LPG when you let the bowser off after filling and you get the little "spurt" of gas that breathes out, that is normal yeah? mine keeps flowing out for about 3 seconds every time but twice now it has just poured out resulting in me loosing a bit of gas and getting a very cold quarter pannel, would this mean i have to replace the little rubber seal that sits inside the filler pipe where you screw the bowser onto? cos the tank is brand new its just that the filler pipe is the old one and the rubber seal is the only thing i can think of?????

Sound like the filler on your truck has some dirt in it I would be getting it checked ASAP

The vent holes in the filler are what you see when you release the filler from the car... its the gas traped between the valve inside of the fill point on your car and the actual filler nozzle which is escaping after the fill is complete

rubber seal ...... nope !
The rubber seal will leak when you are filling it if it is damaged, you'll get a small discharge from the "vent" holes in the filler and it will be a continuse discharge while you fill er up !
There are 2 rubber seals in the filler on the car... 1 you can see the other is internal.
Behind that lump of brass that the filler screws onto there is a oneway valve. It's spring operated and by the sounds of it it has either failed or as BJ 42 said there may be a bit of crud trapped in the valve therefore causing it not to shut off correctly.

The Fix.....
take it to an expert LPG fitter.
alternativly and only do this if you are 100% confident in your mechanicle skills.... start to undo the brass filler nut SLOWLY.... a small amount of gas will be released, this is the gas from the fill line only not the tank.
Once the brass filler is removed do an inspection of the valve ( they are straight foward things... a simple spring and a plunger and a rubber seal )
Replace the nessecary parts and reinstall it.... USE the CORRECT addhesive such as "Stag" etc to seal the brass nut back on.

Hay wouldn't take the valve off .
They dont all have a valve stop at the tank inlet,
I was also under The impression this would be a legal requirment for an installation , But the rover i just pulled to bits has a twin tank set two lines from tank into T piece then to the filler valve , these lines are all under pressure the outlets on the tanks had the usual tap valve plus an electric solinoid valve on that line but no valving or stops on the inlet bar the filler.

As king said if you are confident and think it may just be crap under the seal. You may be able to just blow it out. You need a broom handle (firies use old pool cues), put it onto the center of the vavle and push for 1/2 sec's this may fix the problem of blowing the crud out.


p.s I'm not lpg Quallified but have seen it done.

if all the gas in the filler pipe is discharging out the valve then there wont be much pressure in the line.

and if the tank didnt have a one way valve on the filler, all his gas would be gone, and it would last alot longer than 30seconds to empty.

The AFLvalve (Automatic Fill Limiter) is required by law to be fitted to ALL LPG tanks. The AFL valve prevents overfilling and also prevents LPG going back down the fill line.....
If the tank doesnt have an AFL valve its illegal
If the AFL valve is inoperative its illegal.

yep works a treat and dead easy to do.... you can do this with your finger when the tank is dead empty without any fear.....
This introduces another solution for a fix it....
empty the tank out fully
do the broom handle trick
hold the valve open with a screwdriver
insert an air nozzle and blow the crud out. !

thanx guys ended up pullin the filler valve off (at end of hose where bowser screws on) and cleaned it out, got a small pebble bout the size of this O maby a lil bigger out from under the valve, not positive but i am thinkin that was my prob
