Gday just wondering if anybody has any info on making the tacho work in my 2000 gu ex 3 litre and now 4.2. The 4.2 is a simple ground pulse to the tacho and the zd30 uses the ecm. Is there any way to modify or connect or do i just put an after market tacho in its place. Would love to use the original instrument cluster.

GU 4.2 replacing ZD30 tacho problem
I wired up my gu tacho from 2.8 to 4.2, I found the wiring diagram and traced the wires into the loom and through to a junction box where they just stopped . So from there I ran new wires from the pick up along the engine loom and into the cab, came up to the dash cluster and spiced into the correct place in there. What I found was that the 4.2 require two wires to run the tacho and the 2.8 only use one, The 4.2 run strait to the pick up, the 2.8 strait to the ECU. So I was able to find a wiring pin that was not used (sway bar disconnect light) in the dash loom plug , remove this and fit it to the missing place for the tacho, then cut the other wire that use to go to the ecu and fitted that to the new two wire loom, I have the pin numbers and wiring diagrams here somewhere.
Pin 1 is the sway bar of light, this is the one I removed to use the pin from.
Pin 6 is the one that is vacant and is to be used with the 4.2 tacho( fit a pin to this place and wire it to the new loom)
and pin 44 (Y/B I think this is yellow with a black stripe) is the other ( going to the ecu, cut this wire and fit it to the new loom from the dash), I have a disc with the diagram but am not able to save only one page, sorry. I will work on it. cheers Phill
