How much do your sliders flex / how much clearance to body?

I've got some pretty beefy designs in my head but as even the most over-engineered things can flex, how much clearance do people allow beween their sliders and their sills?

I don't want to leave 10mm and find out later the hard way that 20mm would have saved me some dings.

Mine has about 6mm. Who cares if they crush the sills a bit it's only a Zook!!!

Mine are about 20mm from the pinchweld, and about 50mm from the sill itself roughly, could measure it if you need

Mine are ~5mm from the body, but have 0 flex.

I had some that were 0mm :armsup: They were great and I'll do it again depending upon the vehicle and if it suits.

Mine are a few mm from the seam, good ones should have minimal or no movement, that also depends how hard you come down on something.

Mine mount ONTO the body - maximum clearance and have zero flex/movement. :D

mine sit up against the sill, no flex in them

Thanks all.

I'll see how I go with the bender this weekend. The shop sent the wrong former, so it will be test work only until I can track down a small radius former.

there should be NO FLEX.

There will always be flex, either on the mount, through the slider or though the mating surface.

Even sliders welded to the chassis flex the chassis.

TJ style sliders flex too, but you don't know or realise it as its hard to see.

Any steel that does not flex will crack.

The slider will move slightly as the chassis will will twist a bit.
The other option is to notch the sills allows for more clearance.
