People,

Anyone come across 4" lifted springs instead of the standard 2". I was reading a forum on IH8MUD and there is a company in the States that sells these 4" springs. Downey Off road manufacturing.
Thats pretty insane.

What are peoples thoughts ?? I'm pretty keen to get a set.

Cheers

I've had two lots of custom 4" lift springs through Dobinsons Springs in Rocky and have been really happy with them. They might be worth having a chat too.

Are these the same ones you had problems with though. I read through your build up (awesome) and saw you where having troubles with sagging and shit.

Was that with another brand ?

First set of springs were labeled wrong for front and backs....So when I installed them I ended up with the fronts in the back and the backs in the front. I removed leafs to get the front to sag down and match the rear, but that never really worked. Eventually I swapped them from front to back and it all sat good.

My next set, which I got to increase the wheelbase, I ordered all custom lengths ( i told them what lengths I wanted ). And somehow, what you draw in autocad for the springs, doesn't match in real life, so the mounts needed modyfying etc to get them to work. Am stoked with the finished result but!

you can get 4" lift springs with a bit of work if you dont want an off the shelf product.. problem is its a bit of fiddling around to get it right but you can do it! usually ends up a little bit cheaper too

Well what I have found is that I need BJ42 chassis mounts so I can use bunderra springs (keeping it simple from the gent at dobinsons). With that combo the dobinson dude said I will get 4" lift easier than some other combos.

What do you blokes think ??

Mine is a 74, so therefore it has the small eye spring bushes.

2nd set, which were a full custom set, were $1200......Its cheaper if they can just add longer mains to the 2" springs I beleive.

I definetley wish I went to the effort of converting to the bigger bushes. Mine flog out fairly quickly.
