Should I install a rear locker?

I am in the process of leasing an 05 3.0 ST Patrol. In the lease agreement, I also wanted to have some ARB gear installed, including front and rear lockers.

Now I find out that after submitting the paperwork, and the amount of money to be spent has been agreed on, ARB stuffed me up with their quote, and it will cost me about a grand more than originally priced.

I have been told the rear LSD's in them is pretty good, and a rear locker may be more of a waste of money and isnt really necessary.

Any comments anyone, I am getting out of the more tougher kind of driving I used to do, but still like the idea of lockers front and rear to get me out of (or maybe into) trouble should it arise.

i would go the rear makes a big difference even it the lsd is good.

If you have a "quoted price" from ARB..... it shouldnt be any dearer than their quoted price.

In a GU, I'd always put a front locker in first before the rear locker.
The rear limo, whilst it can give up, is still the best factory limo going.
You go further with a front locker/rear limo combo than a rear locker/open front.

Yeah, I knew someone would bring this up. I will be having a chat with them, because the overall cost of what I wanted to get done was pretty darn good, thats why I chose to go the ARB route.

Problem is, I have decided against getting something on the quote, and additionally, the time frame since the quote was given has probably expired due to the lease company sitting on their hands for a bit, so these two things probably nullify the original quote.

The added expense is the labour to fit the lockers- the labour to fit the compressor was quoted, but not for the fitting of the lockers themselves. This adds around $800 to the cost. It really isnt a huge issue, I can come up with the dollars, it just changes my perspective a little, and I will be fitting a few more things myself, instead of getting them fitted for me.

No, to fit both.

Originally quoted $170 to fit compressor. New quote is $970 to fit both lockers and compressor and fittings complete.

Fortunately, its really become a bit of a non issue, a phone call to my leasing agents reveals there has been a stuff up the figures from who the car is currently leased through, but in my favour. I have been misquoted the payout to the other lease company that I would be paying- by about $3500. The quote was $3500 too much, so the figures are being reworked, and that mistake more than pays for the incorrect quote from ARB, and I end up paying less anyhow.

And no, I dont mind paying to get them all fitted- I could do it myself, but havent got the time these days- I would rather deliver the vehicle to ARB to get them to fit the lockers, suspension, and snorkle. I will fit the winch and the dual batteries.

How did you get around modifying a leased vehicle? Different contract or something?

I'd leave the LSD in there and go the front locker over rear.

I can accessorise the vehicle in any way I want, as long as it stays legal. All the accessories added at time of leasing are bought free of GST, as is the vehicle itself. Hence I dont want to go down the "fit one locker now, and the other later" route. The company I am leasing with has a copy of the full quote from ARB, in fact AFAIK, they maybe chasing the price down a bit further for me. Vehicle is leased in my name, not a company name. But its probebly very similar to workplace vehicles that have ARB accessories added to them at time of purchase, for a particular job.

Mate am leasing mine, and my biggest mistake was not stacking on more at the start to be included in the lease

I'd def recommend go for both.

I went against everyone, and put in a rear, and have never looked back. It has paid for itself time over.
