Super Select indicators flashing???

Post by Neilj »

Hoping someone can help me with this problem.

I had my car into the garage yesterday to get a weld strengthened on the exaust. When I drove it home I noticed that the "super select" indicators on the dash were flashing (like they do when you change from or to 4WD).
Iv'e driven about 10 Ks since then, in 2WD and in 4WD high and low.
When I change to 4WD, the lights stay on as per normal, when I change back to 2WD they continue to flash on and off.
Does'nt seem to be serious but I don't have a clue where to start looking.

Thanks, Neil

Neil sounds like it is an electrical issue.
Most likely the free wheel engage switch either needs replacing or cleaning (bad connection).
This is located next to the actuator rod and if you remove your bashplates can see it clearly. This is the first place to start rather than diving in and replacing the 4x4 ECU behind the dash. Also pays to check the two vacuum solenoids (located just behind the air filter on the wheel tub) to make sure none of the hoses are split or leaking and all connections are good. It only takes a small amount of crap in the wrong place to upset this system so it pays to acquaint yourself with it.
If you buy a Gregory's manual (No- 510) it explains it pretty well. Most of the flashing lights issue's are more annoying than anything else.

Bitsamissin, thanks for the reply.

Am sure it's electrical, as everything is working normally, apart from this disco on the dash.
Have got a Gregory's 510, and spent yesterday (Monday) tracing the various 2WD, 4WD switches on the vehicle, so I now have an idea of where most of them are, (did not remove bash plates).
Have booked the car into above mentioned garage tomorrow, (there was no problem till they got to it) for them to have a look at it.
If they cannot fix it I will go through your suggestions 1X1.
Again, thanks for the help.

Neil

Feel sorry for Pajpwr, just went through something similar with CV joints on my sons Suby.

Bitsamissin:
You hit the nail on the head, it was one of the vacuum hoses.
I checked everything you suggested two weeks ago, but missed it amongst all the gunge down there, DOH! Mental note: Clean under side thoroughly.
Thanks. Neil

Is this Gregory manual better than the factory tech manual... I have the two book set right now, but if there are better books out there I want to pick them up.

No it's not better than a factory manual overall.
But it does have a good section on the 4x4 flashing lights.
I have a Haynes, Chiltons but overall the Gregory's is the best out of em.
http://www.gregorys-online.com/greghome.asp is their website but it seems to be down at the moment.
I don't have a factory manual but I hope it comes online through Jason's site.
