Blue-slipping and modifications

I've basically got two questions about reregistering my car in NSW.

First, if i put a replacement engine in my car, do I need to get a blue slip or can I just get a pink slip?

Second, if I do need to get a blue slip, will i be able to get one if my truck has modifications (lift, bigger tyres, etc - i know the car would pass for a pink slip).

Maybe you're asking the wrong people......

Try NSW RTA for a correct answer.

If the engine is the same type as original and just a change of number, you need a partial blue slip for change of identifying number (ie engine number), then take the paperwork to the registry to get the papers updated.

If it's not the original type of engine, you'll need an engineering certificate, then a partial blue slip for change of identifying number plus design check.

The vehicle can pass pink slips and yet be defectable for modifications not being engineered. If you need a partial blue slip, it's going to depend on how the blus slip guy reads the rules as to whether he'll just do the change of numbers inspection (unlikely) or whether he'll insist on checking obvious modifications at the same time, and white slipping (failing) it as requiring an engineering certificate for the modifications (likely).
