Oil light on when idling and warm.

Hi my oil light has just started to come on when my ute idles now. It has to be warm (at running temp) too for the light to come on. I have just recently replaced my front main seal as it was leaking the light thing started happening about the same time as that. It is on a 2L diesel hilux.
Why is this???? Any help appreciated.

What grade oil are you running? Oil gets thinner as it gets hotter, so as it gets thinner you could be loosing oil pressure. I presume you have double checked your oil level? You might have to drop the sump and check the pickup on your pump. Or try another pressure switch to make sure its not faulty before dropping your sump and oil pump.

Possibly oil level is low or oil pickup pump is getting tired. Just a couple of ideas.

EDIT: Haha looks like bubble-boy got in before me! ;)

If you've already checked the oil level and its ok I would be putting an oil pressure gauge on it before pulling anything apart. As said it might only be a dodgy oil pressure switch.

many things can cause low oil pressure as stated check it mechanically with a test gauge , being a 2L they are getting pretty old.. oil pressure is probably low wich is usualy caused (not saying this is the cause) by too much bearing clearance (worn out bearings due to being an old used engine) could be a faulty relif valve possibly even the pickup however since it happens when its hot and the oil is thinner id say probably not a blocked pickup as the oil being thinner would allow more to flow through the same size hole right? =] just my 2c , the oil pump is located in the timing case at the front of the engine it could also be worn out.

just sounds like a tired motor to me with big bearing clearances, if the oil flows to freely, the pressure will drop, if its hard for the oil to flow, the pressure will be higher, I'd go to a thicker oil, 30/70 etc... or try a new oil pump or new engine!!!!

Put a pressure guage on it and see what you have.
It could just be a faulty oil light sender unit.

Dont know till you know what pressures your running at idle, and at rpm.
