Holden 5L efi V8 into 80 series auto

Post by tas80 »

G'Day
This topic has probably been covered before but I'll ask anyway, I'm looking at converting from 3FE to a 5l efi V8 using Marks Adapters gear keeping the standard Toyota 4 speed auto.
I'm keen to hear from anyone who has done this conversion, I know there are plenty of manual ones that have been converted but I plan to stick with the auto.
I think I read a thread on here a while ago about someone having trouble getting the Toyota auto shifting at appropriate revs with a holden V8, just want to confirm whether this is a known problem?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Not worth the effort really, for the cost.

Better to go something more powerful, and more fuel efficient.

The auto can be modded to work as required.

speak to rodney at whalesale auto's he does converters to suit v8 and modified valve bodys got them for my 60 as it was running hot and was slow to shift feels alot stronger now and doesn't overheat . wish i went the full manualised valve body also you would want to add a temp guage to keep a eye on things as auto's dont last long when they overheat
think he does mods for 80 auto's
