Hey guys need some help getting my around around the electricals for my up coming conversion, swaping engines. I have two shorties one petrol/gas (good body) and one Diesel (good motor but is a qld saltwater rust bucket). I feel confident with the mechanicals, but i want to get some more info a what electriacals need to be swaped i.e does the whole body/engine looms need to be swaped over. I spose poeple have done this conversion before so any advice would be grate
Thanks

we have done the swap once, and will be doing it a second time next week, due to an acco,
we swapped over the engine/dash loom, goes around the engine bay, through the fire wall, through the dash and ends under the passenger seat, not too bad to swap out really, then you dont have to worry about modifying wiring,

exactly what he said the harness from the plugs under the passenger seat back should be the same. and the rest as long as you take a little time and make sure you know where everything goes its pretty straight forward. but you may need 2 people 2 feed both harnesses thru the fire wall.

Thanks fellas, did you guys have to pull apart the dash and the center section that houses the stero and the a/c and heater controls?? I know the cluster will have to come out for sure. Any more hints and tips would be reall apprieated also how long did it take you boys just out of curiosity.
thanks Glenn

yeah mate, you have to take the whole dash out as the wiring loom runs just below the windscreen, strip the whole lot out, two people will definately help remove the loom, but you can struggle through it with one person.

including the dash you may also have to remove the end fan box just to get to a bit of the wiring on the passenger side. its only 3 10mm nuts or bolts and it just comes out. and also you will need to either remove the steering wheel or drop the steering colum to remove the dash. to remove steering wheel is a 17mm nut or 2 12mm bolts to drop the colum down.
and when your all done and you think its time to pack it all up you remember you have to rewire in all your driving lights and uhf radios and all that kinda stuff lol thats what i found to be the most annoying part of it all lol,
also depending on what year model the cars are the engine mounts may be different. when i done mine i didnt know this at the time and was stressing out for a bit lol. but i think its pre 91 or somewhere round then they had a 2 bolt mount after that they had a 4 bolt mount. if they differ either way just unbolt the complete brackets off the block and bolt on the petrol brackets onto the diesel. and it will all fit. and the fuel lines should be all the same to. so just swap hoses under the engine bay.

Thanks Guys. Going off the compliance plates i beleive the Transmissions are the same H61 i think. (Both cars were built in 89) The petrol patrol has a pretty new tuff clutch that i would like to keep i possible and also do i have to swap bell housing (stud pattern difference). Also i see no problem with using a deisel tank for a petrol and visa versa and reason?? why not.
Thanks for all the answers back guys
