Putting an ARB air locker into a replacement 4 Runner IFS diff tomorrow from my current rooted diff.
Can't find the destructions from the locker.
Is it hard for a mechanically minded person to do, are there any traps to be aware of.

Cheers

Thanks, looks like a case of either

a) Fit the new diffs crown wheel to the ARB Locker install and shim to get clearences right as per the manual

b) Fit the new crown wheel to the old diff and reinstal as the pinion isn't damaged to the eye

Advice for the easiest fix please guys,

Cheers

Gday,

Crownwheel and pinions are matched and must be used together.

You really need a diff spreader to fit the airlocker in order to get enough carrier bearing preload.

If you don't preload the diff enough it will "walk" in the housing and cause air leaks or oil to go back up the airline.

These are not the easiest locker to install,as you will find out,but you really do need the instructions for a few important parts.mainly the seal housing setup and the correct location to drill the diff for the airline.

Is your diff the salisbury type with a cover plate,or the clamshell type?

It has the cover plate, I have worked on them before and have not needed a housing spreader. Just undo bearing saddles and prise the diff centre and shims out.

But this is the information I am after, I can simply fit the entire new diff into the car as it comes, open centre, but as I say I have fitted an auto locker to one of these diffs before but that entails replacing exactly the same diff and spacers.

So it sounds like the only way to utilise the locker is to fit the new crown wheel to it and re install in the new diff with it's matching pinion.
