Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I am looking for a Welding shielding gas mixer.....

I want to mix Argon and Helium to get the surface temp up when using my TIG on Aluminum
My new TIG is 360 amps, but I want to increase the surface temp without increasing the current and blowing things in half

Its done a fair bit in the states, but all the welding shops around here look at me funny when I ask, and just suggest I get a custom mix in the bottles, but I want to dial it in to perfection myself

Its basically a box with 2 inlets,1 outlet, a mixing chamber and a couple of knobs to set the various ratio's of mix...... sounds simple enough, but in practice its a tricky thing to do with out the right box.

so, anyone know where I can buy a welding gas mixer ?

We do this at work, i just plumbed the 2 regs together into a y pipe with one way check valves up stream of the ypipe.

The pressure settings on the regs will give you your mix.

How perfect do you need these welds but?

probably not that perfect mate, but I just like to play around and get the max out of things.... half the fun is maxing out I recon hahaha

Certainly not a cheap option, when I googled "Smith gas mixer" it gave me this link http://store.cyberweld.com/smithgasmixers.html but at USA $1300+ then you have to get it here pay imports and GST.

I asked Boc in Kawan the othe day, They had some pre mixed helium-argon. He did say that boc were fazing out keeping them in stock and would be by order only soon.

Straight Helium does make a hell of difference in AC welding, in one instance on heavier sections I was using about 70amps less using Helium compared to Argon. This difference was enough so that the amperage wasn't overloading the Tungsten and spitting it across the arc.
The trade off apart from the horrendous price of Helium was poorer arc starting and with Helium being lighter than air positional welding can be a compromise.
