Just had a look at this and just wanted to ask you guys what your thoughts on running this as a gps system in my comp truck and what gps software would be the best to use?

I think it would be a hassle! Better off with a dash mount GPS and a map light imo, especially in a 'comp truck'.

Sure is a cool looking laptop though

Very impressive but size would suck in a comp truck for what you would need it for.

probably should say HAD a retail price tag as the specs suggest it is getting a little old.

If feedback and sell/buy count is anything to go buy. I would say the sale is legit. And resale would be pretty limited market.

I know what your saying about size but i thought it would be good for other things as well as being just a gps system. I have found another one that's smaller it has a 10" touch screen. Also turns into a tablet so wouldn't take up as much space with the keyboard.

here is some testing

The tablet is a much better option.
that first on would be at least 3-4 years old (based on specs) and GPS technology has advanced as well as computer tech.

The toughbook does not include a "optical" drive internal CD or DVD

Its ok that it wont have a cd drive will transfer all the stuff i need onto it with wifi.

What software should i try out? i know about oziexplorer but will it do everything i need it to do cause i have been reading up on what it can do and from what i have read its not for live gps.

IMO ozi etc would be too clunky and unreliable for competition use - and really no advantage (infact possibly a disadvantage) if you don't have detailed maps of the area you're competing in.

I'd say the same goes for any pc/laptop/tablet based setup.

What sort of comps do you intend on competing in and what other uses would the laptop have?

Xtreme winch challenge . local comps cq offroad challenge, cliffhanger and the like. The computer could also be used for tuning on the fly and for internet while at base camp.

IMO

2 x https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=162&pID=13490

gives you the ability to both enter points with a proper numeric keypad at the same time and link/share info and data. Expensive, but when you own a $50-100k comp truck what an extra $6k..

Plug into the Garmin Marine Network with the GPSMAP 3006C, a full-featured chartplotter with a 16 cm colour screen. Whether you choose the 3006C or its larger counterpart, the GPSMAP 3010C, you'll get bold, sunlight-readable colour, high-speed processing and the versatility of a multifunction display.

See Graphics in Sharp Detail
With the GPSMAP 3006C's crisp reflective screen, you'll get incredible contrast and detailing, even in direct sunlight. Tough enough to withstand rain, sunlight and saltwater spray, the case is fully gasketed and waterproof to IPX7 standards. The 3006C's slim-line design makes it easy to install in cabin bulkheads or open cockpits. It also provides a remote control, VGA output and video input options, so you can connect a live video feed from your engine room or other area of the boat.

Integrate Easily with Garmin Marine Network
The 3006C connects easily to the Garmin Marine Network, so you can interface with additional MFDs and add remote sensors, radar and sonar. Once connected, you can share information between the 3006C and other chartplotters on your boat.

Add More Marine Maps
The 3006C accepts optional BlueChart® marine cartography, which provides detailed offshore maps, and includes an enhanced worldwide basemap. Plus, with the latest software, the 3006C can accept regional BlueChart g2 data cards — g2 brings you 3D maps, tides and currents, depth contours, navaids, port plans, marine services, points of interest (POIs), photo references and more.

You should have paid more attention when you where there.
Most seem to be running the colour ones that Madengineer posted. Theres two options there a big one or a little. In Juzza's ute we used a Magellan FX324 and we found the smaller screen much nicer to use in the car.
So I wouldnt go the big the screen, as it will take up a heap of passenger space.
