Was out at mansfield on the week end, had just been driving along a dirt track not doing any thing extreme. Had to reverse back and couldnt get it into reverse. Its although something is stopping it as it just hits some thing and wont go any further. I tried striaghtening up as i thought it may have been wound up but still didnt work, tried rolling backwards and putting it into gear but that didnt work either. Its got plenty of oil, there has been no affect on any of the other gears they feel exactly the same as before. Any ideas on the problem?
Its a 22r so what ever gearbox they come with, thanks

afaik common problem is the bush in the selector wears and causes gears not to engage. tho i didn't think it caused no reverse.

Maybe check to see if a stone has been flicked from the dirt track. It could have gotten wedged around the shifter, stopping it from going into gear. Have a feel around the gearbox, and take the rubber boots off to have a look. Thats the only quick fix I can think of.

Listen to this man, common problem with early Hiluxes & Landcruisers (particularly 60 Series).

i'm listening but it dont make sence.............. the white selector bush yer?? usually when it wears out you get alot of slop in there gear lever so it half ingages the gear. this is not the problem hear. it wont physicaly pull back into gear like something is stopping it...

They get loose but they also try to select two gears at once jamming the selectors before it gets a chance to select a gear.
Doesnt seem possible as it always seems like its a bigger issue with the gearbox but it usually isnt.

Another thing is, bleed the clutch, if the clutch is new you may have worn it in a little, every car i've owned that needs it bled and/or replaced, reverse is the hard one to get into before any others.

badly busted engine mount can cause it to happen also, check this as it'll lean the motor/gearbox over and the gear stick will hit the gearbox tunnel

Update
Lever doesn't hit the body the bush isn't worn.
Say when your driving in 5th gear and try to pull it in reverse it wont go in, it has a lock to stop you. well this locking system is stuck on its the same felling the lever jut wont move in reverse.
anyone no how to fix this or how this locking system works
thanks

The bush wont look worn, just replace it its cheap.
When I mean bush, I dont mean the little one on the end of the stick, the big one the ball sits in, thats the one that causes the problems.
