Not in any Mitsubishi vehicle of which I'm aware. Although certain Starion rear diff centres will fit Pajero front diffs.

My question concerns an NH auto. The reason I asked is because mine has never done any off road 4w driving in its 177000 klm life and mine has a bit of a whine in the rear diff as was indicated in the "Dog & Lemon Guide" book. It`s a book that lists all manufacturing faults in most vehicles. I was hoping that because the front diff has not done any work under load that I could swap the diff centres around !!! If this cannot be done then I assume that eventually I will have to rebuild the rear one to get rid of the whine which only occurs underload, it dissappears as soon as you lift your foot of the throttle? Is there an alternitive method of cureing the whine without reverting to the old method of using banana skins!!!!

If you check our
Tech Info thread, NH V6 auto has 9" rear diff, and 7.25" front diff.
AFAIK, whine means the relationship between crownwheel & pinion has changed, and it's next to impossible to cure.
A s/h unit from a wrecker may be better, or it may not.

Change the oil, water contaminated oil makes a diff whine real bad.

The oil in the diffs were checked recently, the oil was nice and clean.
According to the author of the "Dog & Lemon Guide" this diff noise is an inherent problem with this model Pajero !!!!

I would change it regardless of color. Its pretty cheap and may shut it up a bit ... stick a good does of moreys or lucas oil in with it.
I have read that dog and lemon guide about several vehicles .. and found it to be a bit of a lemon itself

love_mud,
The diff noise is not that loud, I know its there, its just that at times it gives me the "tomtits" so I will give your idea a try as I have been considering using a heavier oil with an additive to deaden the sound.
