OEM Fuel tank material

Does anyone know the thickess and type of the steel used in OEM fuel tanks?
It's pretty thin, MUCH MUCH thinner than whats used in aftermarket tanks.
I know it needs straps to support it and lots of ribs to give it any strength.
That said, they seem to cop the whacks ok.
