My mate is currently looking at both and he was wondering whether the sahara is really worth the extra coin people are asking?

Ino extra is: the fridge/ice maker, dual air con (front and rear), better power steering, leather, and electtric lockers but is there anything else?THanks

depends on the price difference. I own a diesel gxl and a petrol sahara. the sahara is a much better equipped car. worth the extra coin i reckon.

Not all Saharas are the same either. Some have no fridge some have no leather. Some are almost the same as a GXL. It depends on the year model.

I thought all Aussie spec Saharas got the fridge etc. Isn't it only the Jap spec ones that don'ty have the fridge and rear air con as they are not Saharas but VX's.

Seats even if they are not leather are better material than GXL's and they have more adjustment and better support. The steering is speed sensitive and really good. Have a centre console whicj I think only 40th anniversary and auto GXL's had. More speakers or speaker locations if you want to upgrade sound system. The headlights are better in standard form than the twin GXL units. Carpets are much nicer.

The factory lockers are brilliant.

But depends on what he is really chasing.

Japanese vx's were brought into the country too, they are 5 seaters .... think they had an icemaker... early sahara was cloth seated....all have lockers std, after 95 they were auto or auto....plus they got an airbag to go with the abs....they are simply a nicer car to drive, with light steering at parking that becomes heavier well weighted at speed...the climate is also awsome...no cold air in the mornings.....turn both airconds on and in 2 minutes flat, the car is cool....

thats what i was going to say, have a look at an early sahara and they have a poxy brown interior that was cool at the time, a late Gxl would be better than an early sahara. you really need to give 2 examples of trucks he is looking at and the price difference to get a real opinion.

Not quite Nick you are comparing the poxy brown to a grey interior GXL. GXL's also got the poxy brown interior and in anyones book the brown look crap. I have a 90 model Sahara and I can tell you they did come in a grey interior. It is a light grey velour like material on the seats and door trims with a darker stripe through it. Door map pockets also have the same plush carpet that is on the floor which is a dark grey gunmetal colour. The steering wheels are also leather clad. The speaker grills are cloth covered not plastic. The hood lining is light grey velour. As far as I can tell the only trim the same is the clip on plastics. Sealbelts are height adjustable.

The diffs have bigger bearings in them too for the locker centres.
