Installing power steer to 1983 hilux, HELP NEEDED!!

OK the story lol.
got a kit for a 2l motor. mines a 2l.
everything fits except the pump pulley doesnt line up with the harmonic balancer pulley. i have a 3 v pulley on the harmonic balancer. i was also given another pulley in the kit which is about 15mm wide and the pump is out by about 15mm lol. so im guessing i bolt this extra pulley to the harmonic balancer??
if this is the case then it will work however it will hit the fan. why is this is it because the engine bay in the 1983 is slighlty shorter or what. either way if it does hit wats the best fix get twin thermos for the front of the radiator and make it pusher and remove the puller engine driven fan??
any help would be appreciated, Thankyou!!

Im at work at the moment i will have to get some pics. everything fits like it should but the pump pulley is 15mm towards the front of the vehicle which places the belt 15mm infront of the harmonic balancer which makes me think that i need to attach a pulley to the front of the balancer.
will get pics when i get home

It is because the water pump pulley is spaced out further on p/s motors, which will move the fan out the extra bit needed, have you got a power steering radiator?, the bottom hose will hit the pump, unless you make some really tight bends.
Possibly the alt bracket could be different also, as the water pump pulley which the alternator runs off is further out, i've noticed all this as im transplanting a motor with p/s and nothing is a straight swap from my non p/s motor haha.

I have just put p/s on my 3L.
I had a pulley to the alt, and then another one underneath it for the p/s.
Maybe your using the same as the alt?
Mine didn't line up 100% but still works fine, was maybe 5-10mm.

i think this is the case as the radiator lower pipe is going to be a PITA
I think im using the right one i only have the harmonic balancer pulley with 3 v grooves and the water pump pulley with 2 v groves. the alt is on the 1st groove of harmonic, so im left with 2 v's. the last v groove is still about 12 - 15mm out of alignment with the power steer pump pulley. so yeh i will get pics wen i can might help lol

Well I used the waterpump pulley on mine.
Just get the bottom outlet moved to the opposite side, and goto the wreckers and get the hose thats needed.

i have 3 v grooves on harmonic and going to add another pulley is this like yours.
mines going to hit the radiator fan did yours if so howd u fix it.

Ok guys and gals i have sorta the radiator pipe issue and the pulley issue. now i have a dilema with the radiator fan hitting the pulley. i can try shimming the fan towards radiator but i think it will be to close. as in 7 - 10mm which to me is abit close. or i can go a thermo fan. i cant think of any other way to make this work.
any ideas are much appreciated

That wont work. The fan will hit the radiator as the radiator on the early lux is closer to the motor due to the shorter engine bay.
You really need to make a custom bracket for the pump and line it up with one of the other pulley's. You can make a 3F or a 2Y pump fit on the drivers side of the Cyl head where an AC pump would usually mount. The 3F or 2Y pump also has the Res built in.
I wouldnt space the fan any closer to the radiator either. the deisels are bad enough with the fan hitting the radiator in the stock possition. I would also recomend against fitting elect fans as they are unreliable and rarely cool as good as a mech fan.

thanks ruff, i didnt realise that the 3f and 2y would fit above the alternator on the drivers side. ill have to look into it. other option is to get a radiator from another vehicle that is skinnier or try and space the radiator forward more. i have all the parts for the stock pump so im not sure how im going to do it. i will look into the pumps your suggesting where do they bolt onto tho. the side of the block or what mounts
other option is something like a ford EA pump. im not sure about getting lines to go from pump to box tho or can u get custom ones made at a decent price.

haha, u sure you want to take on that challenge. its a shitheap firstly and secondly ill be at Glassy sunday u heading out lol.
there is nothing wrong with the bracket lol its coz the engine bay is shorter than the luxs with power steer. if i cant get it to work when i get the extra parts i might take you up on the offer of a bracket

car is together was in pieces 2 weeks ago lol and put it back together and gathered more parts. i have to get the radiator modified so the outlet is on the drivers side lower rather than the passenger side lower. also need to attach a pulley to the crank and then remove the passenger side engine mount/bracket and replace with the pump bracket then attach the box and add a thermo or space my fan forward. so nothing will happen till i get the radiator modded.
if for some reason i cant get the pump to fit and line up with the pulley i might come over one weekend in a few weeks and take your offer up tho hey.

The EA pump would work as well. You will need to get lines made. But your going to need to get lines made if you put the pump above the Alt anyway. The EA pump will be cheaper than the toyota pump. If your going to buy another Toyota pump try and get the 3F one as from memory the 2Y one has the lines out the wrong side and it makes it difficult to make the bracket. Neither the 2y or 3f pump will bolt straight on. Both need brackets made.
Actually contact Buddy(bubs) he may still have a pump and bracket of his old one.

I will look for pictures later, but I used a 60 series landcruiser pump mounted up top of drivers side where aircon would usually be mounted. I then used an air con adjuster setup and pulley. Plenty of room between the harmonic balancer and radiator.

thanks for that bubs, pics would be great whenever you can find them no rush as it wont be happening for a month or so need to find the time, place and tools to do the mods. thanks for the help everyone.
