Hi all,
I realiise that there are slight differences between the GQ and GU 5spd gearboxes, but is there a way of telling which is which? (are there numbers on these)
I am still hunting for one to fit the GU, but the wrecker imports directly from Japan, so never sees the vehicle it came from, and would like to know a way he can check it.
Cheers,
Dave

Earlier GQ boxes had a plate on the side for the PTO output. Later model & GU boxes don't.

Unfortunately, the GQ's here had either pto, or non pto boxes

Yeah, shifter location, and bellhousing I think, minor differences, but just need some way to know which is which when I haven't got anything to compare to.
There has been a conversion done over here with the GQ box, a small amount of cutting for the gearlever was required (no more than doing a BL) but it runs 30mm or so spacers uner the gearbox x-member to clear the trans tunnel, which I'm not keen on.

the shifter is closer to the front on a gq and the low range transfercase lever is different.

Some early GU's had the PTO output also, i think the numbers were different, at least when i was talking to a Guy on EO we compared numbers on the plate under the hood, his car was a GU grenade and mine is a 93 GQ td42
Anyway the GU (except rd28t) uses a FS5R50B
And the GQ box (except rd28t and rb30) is FS5R50A
At least thats whats on the plates.
