Where do you mount a radio in series 4 GU

Setting up a 2006 4.2 TDI wagon - but where do people mount a UHF Radio? Under dash but in front of gear sticks is good but prohibits access to sub tank switch, etc. Maybe I relocate the sub tank switch. Has anyone addressed this most devastating oversight in an otherwise perfect rig? Maybe overhead console or a dash pod ....
