Hi all,
I went to adjust the bakes on my SJ50 yesterday and realized quickly that I had NFI what I was doing. ::)
I wanted to adjust the hand brake wich are on the rear wheels >:(
Anyway when I pulled off the drum I reallized that there is no adjuster. The only thing that I can see that remotely resembles an adjuster is in the pick below. It has some sort of ratchet on it which I assume is an auto adjuster.
Is there another way to adjust the brakes and hand brake?
cheers
Hutch

Correct, there's no other adjuster.
There is adjustment in the cable at the handbrake lever end.
However, if I've got things around the right way, that adjuster is all the way in - i.e in the position it would be in with new pads/drums. Make sure it's moving properly . Move it though its range of travel and make sure everything is free. When you pull the handbrake on after having the brakes apart you should hear the adjusters ratchet up.
Think yourself lucky you don't have 1.0 brakes that aren't self adjusting - I got way sick of adjusting mine.

Thanks mate... mine are siezed. So if Im right they are to move freely?
So looks like I need to pull em all apart! My foot brakes are working, just not he handbrake. The pads still have a bit of meat on them too.
Thanks for the info.

They're a ratchet, so they lock in one direction, but move quite freely in the other.

got new shoes this arvo, cleaned it all up and fitted em. But the old shoes were about 50% so that was not the prob. If you look closely in the pic you might recognise that a return spring is missing.
so I need to find one of these now.

correct me if im wrong, but sj50 - NT therefore handbrake is on tcase.
Your drums look NT also, no cable entering for handbrake like later SJ70 (WT) models.

some SJ50's are WT and have axle mounted handbrake.

There is no handbrake mechanism here. You must have a Transfer mounted handbrake.
How ever, yes the ecentric cam is the adjuster. They never seem to work automatically so you'll probably have to flick it out with a screw driver..

Ruffy, the handbrake mechanism is in those photos IMHO- Its off as photographed. when applied, the lug visible in the "clean" photo pushes towards the drum and applies the handbrake. The little spring ensures it returns.
I could be wrong, but I had my WT rear brakes apart on saturday and that's what mine look like.

Yes correct... the problem was it was all gummed up. needed a clean and the ratchet worked fine then. Also the return spring was missing. It looks like this.
