Hi all

Just wondering how you guys normally remove the engine for your GQ / GU ?

Do you take engine and gearbox as one or engine separately ?

Mine is a V8 304 with GQ 5 speed and transfer case. I was looking at making a removable piece of the radiator support to make it easier as well.

Any help or info would be appreciated, I dont want to get half way through doing and see an easier way that could have saved me hours.

Cheers Nick

alot of people in comp cut the top radiator support out in order to remove the engine but as mine is on road we didnt touch it. mine cracked a head and the clutch had shit itself so we just unplugged the wires, unbolted the bellhousing and engine mounts and lifted it out, piece of cake. im pretty sure you can do it all in one go but im not sure what you have to cut.

How often are you planning on having to remove your engine and gearbox?

When we did Damige's one recently we removed engine thru top, box under it.

But it depends on why your removing it in the first place.

Need to temp fit for engine mounts and then again after paint and wiring.

I'm want to try and remove engine and gearbox together if possible.

I might look more into the top section removal.

Thanks for the info guys.

depends on the weight of engine and gear box, we removed a GU RD28T and gearbox in one hit, and we ended up busting an engine hoist, so now we do it on 2 bits, bull engine out then pull gearbox out through the engine bay as well, we refit in the reverse order,

to make it easier, we have a 500kg hydrolic table, that we put the gearbox on, to lift up and down, this also aids in sliding the gear box forwards to lift out of the engine bay
