It looks to be the same vintage as these:

GME 470:

GME 472:

So i dare say the mic is the same. Give the GME repair centre in Brisbane a call and email a pic to them. They can be quite helpful.

cheers

If you can find out what model mic it needs, I might be able to help you out, I have a whole tub of brand new (old stock) mics.

Is your radio a TX525, TX560 or TX565? It should have a plate on the back of the radio with the model and serial number etc.

I'm not 100%, and the pictures are a bit out of focus, but I almost reckon I can read the writing above the mic plug on the left side as saying:

27 Mhz
??????? (Possibly AM/SSB)
TRANSCEIVER
MODEL ?????

If it is a 27 Mhz model, it's AM, not UHF and just about a waste of space these days.

EDIT: Found it I reckon. The GME TX-840

in otherwords it is useless because it is an AM/SSB?

It is useless if ya want to talk on the UHF band tho being a 27mhz am/ssb its usefull and a mic would be easy to find for it DSE should have one that will work tho you will need to have someone in the know fit the 5 pin plug ..

As Lokka said, it's useless if you want to talk to people who are using UHF CB radios.

To get it to be able to talk to people using AM/SSB (of which I don't think there would be many these days, or at least would be an absolute minority) would be probably just as costly or a whole lot more stuffing around as buying a whole new second hand unit off ebay IF you really wanted to use 27Mhz.

If it were me, I'd just keep an eye out for a working second hand UHF instead.

I would say its an AM set, too many knobs on it to be UHF.

I have that exact radio, it is an AM.

I still keep it though just in case of emergency, AM can get much better distance more easily, or if you have others in convoy that have them, it can be much easier to have a channel to yourself, or even have a channel to talk to people without the others hearing :)
