ENGINE SWAP....

Hey all,
has anyone put a 2.4D toyota 2L motor into a petrol 3Y 4runner??
I have a 3Y in my car at the moment and arent very happy with it, its nothing but slow and sluggish and loves the fuel...
I have a rebuilt 2.4D in another car and was wondering how hard and expensive is it to change over??
all i heard from other people was that the wiring should just unplug and plug back in and that the bellhousing can be unbolted from one and bolted onto the other. The exhaust can be used from the diesel.
Swap fuel tanks and blow out the fuel lines.
Change the engine mounts.
And change the dash.
Can someone tell me if they have done one?? and how long it took?? and if there is anything i need to buy??
Cheers
Dan

2l's are Slow, Old and falling apart. I would not use one as an upgrade.

4.88's Id need a looonnnng flat to get 120 but is possible, Ive given up and now sit in 4th at about 90kms and just cruise at about half throttle instead of 5th flat. at 100kms

hey i have done 2l engine swap into my yn67 (4y model) i got told its a straight bolt in well its not i had to make new engine mounts the diesel wiring loom had to be wired into the petrol wiring loom (glow plugs, injector pump, alternater, ect) and for the fuel tank i just washed it out with a bit of diesel and put it back in and the other things u will need is diesel radiater and the dash
i think thats it i did mine about 6 months ago and has been going strong sence i can sit on the highway no worrys at 100kph unless theres a hill but im going to turbo my and i think it will be sweet

It would be easier to put a 4Y EFi engine out of a tarago in. Or 22RE or a 22RTE the turbo version. The 2L, 2LT and 2LTE are the worst family of engine that toyota ever brought out. I'd stay with the petrol engines in a hilux unless i could afford the 1KZ (3.0l turbo diesel) I think the pick of the toyota petrol engines that is a relatively bolt in conversion is the 2.7 petrol 3RZ engine. Stay petrol, it will work out a heap easier in the end.

How much is a 1KZ motor these days complete and how much will it cost to convert it into a petrol 4runner??
This car is going to be for everyday and touring so I need good fuel economy which is why a commodore motor will just kill me in fuel money. 4Y motor thought about it, but still is a carby and doesnt boast much more power and torque than the 3Y so thats money wasted. What gearbox do I use for a 1KZ motor? I have a G series box in it now and have an R series box on a diesel. Im pretty sure i have crawler gears in the G series transfer.
I want to convert it to an auto as well.

I have just put a 4Yec, supercharger and intercooler into my 86 hilux. The hardest part was the wiring for the computer. oh and fitting it in with the S/C strapped to the side and plumbing the S/C and the intercooler plumbing and hooking up the crossover steering and the RUF and, and, and, only kidding all good really just make sure whatever you do research, research, research. do it right do it once. saves money in the long run.
