Engineering!

Getting my car engineered is the only thing left on my to do list. I realise it should not be left last, however i brought the car modified. Everything has been professionally built/ fitted. I want to engineer it for SOA and 2" body lift with 31" tyres. I have been asking about costs, however people seem reluctant to give me figures. It will be done in the next month.
The car is a SWB Sierra.
If someone could give me a rough figure on what to expect i would appreciate it.
Cheers

I'd budget for $1000 +/- a few hundred $.

best idea would be to contact the engineer you are going to use and find out from him

This. I misinterpreted your post to mean that you had actually spoken to engineers and they were reluctant to quote you. If you haven't already, make some calls. They will at least be able to give you a ballpark that's dependent on the mods you want to do.

Ok, Just got off the phone with an engineer. He will engineer my car for upto 150mm in total of lift. Includes body, suspension and any lift that tyres may provide. All done at a very good price. I will go in and see him tomorrow.
If anyone is interested PM me and I can give you the quotation i got. He is located in the SE suburbs.
Cheers

so what are you going to do then because with SPOA and 34s you are over 150mm of lift? Plus you can't get Swampers engineered as they aren't allowed to be driven on road

Still tight though, SOA must be a good 100mm straight up, I would have thought.

to give you an idea - mines engineered SPOA on lux front leaves and 31's and measures in 190mm over stock... look at pics in "the ufo" link below and youll note that mines not exactly touching the clouds either (leaves are flat as).
If height is a concern with the engineer - you can lower tyre pressures and run flatter leaves to drop you down a bit. When you do the SPOA make sure your perches sit as close to the diff tube as possible as well - can save 10mm there easily.
Mine had to undergo a lane change test too - and its this that got me through exceeding 150mm... basically i proved that even at 190mm over stock i can still do an avoidance manouvre at 110km/hr =) they couldnt turn me down as i met all their requirements. I was fortunate however to bypass WA's NCOP trial laws and didnt have to undergo brake tests etc.
My engineering ended up around $2k... he made a few road trips to see the work in progress, a final inspection at his place and then track hire and paying a driver to do the lane change test.

Yes your both correct. Thats why I will only get the lift engineered. I can run on 30" tyres and it will be legal. He will not engineer 31's with the lift I have.
A question for those of you with more knowlage than me.
The car is only driven on the road to and from tracks at the moment. If I engineer the lift only and i get pulled over with my 34" tyres on will i only get defected for the tyres? will that mean i only have to change the tyres because the rest is engineered?
Thanks

Speaking from experience here dude, SOA and 2" BL is hella tall and frankly dodgy on cross slopes. I'd ditch the BL if it were me. Just fyi.

I agree with you v840. That was my origional plan when i brought the car but without the BL the 34's wouldnt clear. I brought the car as is. The car is not extreamly high as the leaves are dead flat and stock shackles. In the future I plan on removing the bodylift and cutting the guards. At home we dont have a garage or carport so its difficult to do alot of work on it.
But ideally i would stay SOA and cut the guards. That said though it has a wide stance. The swampers are on flipped rims. I have had a scary experiance on a side slope, but you just learn to drive according to the limits of the car i guess.

If nothing else is a problem yes... but in some states Defects carry 3 points now.. wont take long to lose ya brief.

I'm still on 12 points so it wont bother me. Also as I mentioned the car is not a daily. Thanks for clearing that up bogged. So I will see what the engineer says and get back to all of you.
